Russell County Woman Arrested by ACSO Following Police Pursuit on Hwy 80

On Friday, September 12, 2025 around 7:00pmCT, Adair County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a car sitting in the roadway, about 8 miles from Columbia on E. Hwy 80.

Deputy Joey Keith met the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. While standing outside of the stopped car, the operator took off and a brief pursuit ensued, with the driver backing into Deputy Keith’s vehicle and also striking the auto being operated by ACSO Deputy Nick Barber. The pursuit ended when the operator of the car got stuck in a ditch.

The driver, identified as Annie McNelly, 30, of Russell Springs, KY was arrested and charged with DUI, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st degree, 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment of a Police Officer 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, and No Insurance. She was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.

No one was injured as a result of the police pursuit.

Sheriff Gary Roy would like to commend deputies for their quick decisive action they took to get the impaired driver stopped. He went on to say that Ms. McNelly blatantly showed disregard to public safety by refusing to stop her vehicle at the direction of a law enforcement officer.
