Today (Thursday), the City of Columbia is extremely pleased to announce that the Kentucky State Legislature has approved plans for two major transportation infrastructure improvements in Columbia.
The first one is Rice Drive and Watson Street, where a project will be undertaken to address major drainage issues and prevent the area from facing significant flooding. The project will be a massive step towards ensuring that residents in that area of Columbia are safe in their homes and not cut off from emergency services during flooding events. This project was placed under the Kentucky State road plan for fiscal year 2027.
The second project is Burkesville Loop which has been approved for funding under the Local Assistance Road Program (LARP). This project will return the road to suitable condition for Columbia’s citizens and keep the residents of that road safe.
Mayor Pamela Hoots and all of Columbia’s 5,000 citizens owe a massive debt of gratitude to Representative Amy Neighbors and Senate Majority Leader Max Wise for their tireless work on these two projects, both of which will have a profound effect on our community.
