Just before 3:00 Thursday morning JVFD members were dispatched to the report of a fire at Stephens Pipe and Steel located in the old Fruit of the Loom building in Jamestown. First arriving units found heavy heat and smoke conditions in the wire coating area. All employees were evacuated and accounted for. Due to the size of the building, 300 feet of attack line was deployed inside the building, with aerial crews working on the roof of the structure, advancing a line to extinguish fire on the roof. Russell Springs Fire Department responded with manpower and equipment to help with overhaul and cleanup. A total of 28 Firefighters were on scene just over 3 hours. Due to the size of the response required, Russell County EMS was requested also. Thank you for everyone involved for your support and commitment to our community, for those who were on scene and Eli Fire Department for making sure our community was protected while we worked on this fire. To the people of Jamestown, Russell Springs, and the county, remember your volunteer firefighters who serve. As we finished loading hose, checking and cleaning equipment, l looked at the members around, knowing some would not have much time to clean up and go to work. ?Thanks again to everyone involved.
