The Columbia City Council met in regular session this week (August 3, 2026).
The Council had an executive session with no action taken during the session.
The Council voted to proceed with a request for proposal for lease terms for 100 Majestic Way, the former Synergy Building.
The Council opened bids for awarding of construction of a gas department building. Two bids were received and Gas Superintendent Jerry Watson will review for specifications before the next City Council meeting.
The council also opened and awarded a bid for a planned online auction. They approved surplus police department equipment. They also authorized to advertise for bids for the Phase I of the Trabue Russell House, and approved a funding request from the Adair County Tourism.
The Mayor reported on the upcoming BRIGHT Leadership visit to our community. Approximately 40 visitors will be visiting our town.
The Council voted to give a surplus vehicle to the Class D facility.
All council members received a report from Code Enforcement Officer John Harris of specific action during the month.
The following board appointments were made: Airport Board: Perry Parrish, Clayton Janes, and Bill Troutwine (reappointments). Board of Ethics: Brenda Ballenger. Municipal Housing Authority: Seth Murphy. Code Enforcement Board: Vicky Browning Pike, Leila Allender Jones, Ashley Fitzpatrick (reappointment), Frank Booth Jr., and Joe Hare.
The Code Enforcement report showed: 45 properties inspected, 21 nuisance letters sent.
The Columbia City Police Department showed: 780 calls for service/contacts, 31 citations written, and 18 accidents investigated.
