The City of Columbia is extremely excited to announce that we are a recipient of the 2026 Transportation Alternative Program Grant. This program provides funding for non-motorized transportation projects for communities across the nation. The City of Columbia will be receiving almost $1.4 million in funding for a sidewalk extension and improvement project in the vicinity of Adair County Schools Campus.
The sidewalk will go down Greensburg Street to the school’s furthest entrance, down Walker Street and back up Hudson Street. The grant also includes the repair of a section of sidewalk directly in front of the United States Post Office along Burkesville Street.
“The City of Columbia is excited about this project and the opportunity to improve connectivity in our community. This project continues a priority of mine to improve Columbia’s pedestrian infrastructure and pedestrian safety, to ensure that mobility is available to everyone across our great City in a safe and accessible way,” said Mayor Hoots.
“Special thanks go out to the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and Governor Andy Beshear who contributed greatly to the receiving of this grant,” added Mayor Hoots.
After all funding is received, the city will be responsible for less than $10,000 of the total project.
