A two-vehicle collision on the Cumberland Parkway claimed one life and left another person hospitalized Wednesday, according to local authorities.
Emergency crews responded to the crash on the eastbound side of the parkway near the Nancy exit. According to the Nancy Fire Department, the impact caused one of the vehicles to roll over, trapping two occupants inside. Rescue crews extricated both individuals from the wreckage.
A Russell Springs man in his 70's was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was airlifted to the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington in critical condition. The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office confirmed the fatality, stating the victim’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
First responders from the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad and the Nancy Fire Department assisted at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
