The shooting occurred on I-65 in Warren County. A Blue Alert was then issued for a "severe attack on law enforcement."
KSP are searching for a 2025 blueish/gray Honda Civic (see photo below) that was at the scene of the shooting.
Another public alert said police are looking for Emonnie Branch, describing him as a black man with dreadlocks in a bun. The car reportedly has an Alabama temporary tag with the plate number: TN018596. Officials said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
KSP has identified the trooper as Hayden Phillips, a graduate of Cadet Class 103. He is the son of Homer and Robin Phillips of Adair County.
KSP released a statement:
"Today, we face one of the most difficult moments an agency can endure as we announce the loss of one of our own. Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, made the ultimate sacrifice while patrolling I-65 in Warren County. He was assigned to Post 3 Bowling Green and was a graduate of Cadet Class 103. His dedication to duty and commitment to the commonwealth will not be forgotten.
