KY Baptist Pastor Arrested at Somerset Home on charges Involving Alleged Sexual Offenses Against Minors

Scott C. Hughes, 54, pastor of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY, was arrested on Friday, October 2, 2026 on multiple charges of sexual offenses involving minors, and is being held on a $75,000 bond.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Hughes was arrested at his Somerset home without incident following an investigation into alleged sexual contact with individuals who were minors at the time.

He faces charges including 2nd-degree sodomy, 3rd-degree sodomy, 1st-degree sexual abuse, and Incest (involving a person under 18 by someone at least three years older).

Authorities say the alleged conduct occurred in Pulaski County and dates back to 2018. Detective Jay Picard received the information that led to the arrest. Hughes was booked into the Pulaski County Detention Center early on Friday, October 3, 2026 and is being held on a $75,000 cash bond.

Pleasant View Baptist Church announced that Hughes was placed on administrative leave and relieved of all duties pending the outcome of the investigation. The statement emphasized that the church is handling the matter with care, integrity, and respect for all involved, and urged the congregation to remain prayerful and united.

Hughes was also employed by Sunrise Children’s Services from May 2022 to June 2024 in the Adolescent Alcohol and Other Drug Entity program in Bronston, KY. The organization stated that child safety remains its top priority and that its hiring process includes thorough background checks.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Note: These allegations are part of an active investigation; no charges have been proven, and all information is based on official statements and local reporting.
