A Wednesday night police chase in Somerset resulted in multiple injuries, severe vehicle damage, and the arrest of a 44-year-old local man facing a litany of felony charges, according to local authorities.
The incident began near Ogden Street and U.S. 27 when Zachary Owen Cobb attempted an illegal left turn and refused to pull over for officers, triggering a pursuit.
Police report that Cobb ultimately crashed into multiple vehicles during the fleeing attempt. Among those impacted was a family vehicle carrying 2-year-old Waylon Lawson, his grandmother, and his sister, which was struck head-on near Light 13.
Following a second collision, Cobb fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by police. Authorities reported finding an open container of alcohol and Suboxone tablets in Cobb's van, noting that he showed signs of impairment. Cobb later told police he fled because he feared for his safety and believed a different officer was pursuing him.
Cobb faces numerous charges, including:
DUI (fourth or subsequent offense)
Wanton endangerment
Fleeing or evading police
Leaving the scene of an accident
Multiple drug and alcohol-related violations
