The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) has issued an urgent, critical plea for blood donations, pointing to a sharp decrease in donor turnout that has left its shelves dangerously bare.
KBC officials state that the shortage is heavily impacting A and O type donors (A+, A-, O+, and O-). Because these blood types are among the most common and vital for emergency care, a dip in supply directly threatens local hospital inventories across the state.
?Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, and present a photo ID.
Appointments are strongly encouraged, though walk-ins will be accepted as space allows. Locals looking to boost the supply and roll up their sleeves this week can schedule an appointment by visiting kybloodcenter.org or by calling 800-775-2522.
