The Jamestown Dive Team released a public statement last night on social media addressing local residents and visitors following extended absences from recent emergency operations on Lake Cumberland.
In the statement, members of the all-volunteer rescue squad aimed to clarify their recent inactivity, explaining that procedural changes and administrative decisions by local authorities have repeatedly kept the team from being dispatched to critical search and rescue scenes over the last few years.
The squad emphasized that its certified divers remain fully equipped, trained, and prepared to respond to emergencies on the water. However, despite reaching out to local leadership for clarification, team members reported receiving no explanation for why their services were bypassed.
Local officials have not yet issued a public response regarding the operational status or dispatch protocol changes concerning the volunteer dive unit.
