The Casey County Fiscal Court approved a 12-month moratorium on data center construction during a special called meeting on Wednesday, passing the measure by a majority vote.
Under the terms of the resolution, the construction, development, and operation of new data centers and their associated energy systems are temporarily prohibited within the unincorporated areas of Casey County.
County officials enacted the pause to allow time for a comprehensive review evaluating how large-scale facilities might impact the area’s water supply capacity, local infrastructure, and existing regulatory standards.
