Vernon McQueary, age 79, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Born August 11, 1938, in Gilpin, KY, he was a son of the late Marvin Gerald McQueary and Laura Clark McQueary. Vernon was retired from the IT Department for Verizon. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky. Vernon loved computers and technology. He enjoyed music and was a very devoted “family man”. Vernon was a skilled woodworker and furniture maker. He was an avid UK fan and a member of the First Christian Church in Liberty, KY. Vernon was a US Army Veteran.
Survivors include his dear wife, whom he wed on September 7, 1963, Bette Kinne McQueary; son, Michael McQueary of Hillsborough, NC; sisters, Barbara (and Joe) Beeler, Glenda Wesley, and JoAnn McQueary, all of Liberty; three grandchildren, Ryan, Jake, and Nikki; and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Aubree.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerald and Gilbert McQueary.
Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Thursday, September 21, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronn Oren officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Wednesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
