MAZELLE CRAVENS ANDREWS, 94, GEORGIA (RUSSELL CO. NATIVE)

Mazelle Cravens Andrews, age 84, of Franklin Springs, GA passed away on March 10, 2018, at her home with her husband, Morris at her side after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mazelle was born on March 12, 1933, in Russell County, Kentucky, daughter of the late, Zellah and Jason Cravens.

Mazelle had a lifetime love of learning.  She began in a one room school and graduated from two colleges; Lindsey Wilson College and the University of North Georgia.  She received an Education Specialist degree from the University of Georgia.

Mazelle married the love of her life, Robert Morris Andrews, on December 23, 1955.  In addition to raising two children, she was a master educator in the Franklin County School System and at Emmanuel College for over 40 years.  She enriched the lives of thousands of students.  Her example taught that hard work and discipline are the tools we are given to build self respect in this life.

Mazelle served her beloved church, Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in a variety of roles for decades.  She loved her church family.  She shared her beautiful voice and love of music as the head of the choir.  She taught her Sunday school class that faith in God teaches us that humility, grace, hope and love are the pillars of our spiritual life.

In the community she served as head of the library board and was active in the Georgia Association of Educators.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Morris; children, Robin Mercer and husband, Albert of Franklin Springs, GA and Dean Andrews and wife, Connie of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Megan, Brooke, Stephen and Morgan; sisters, Sue Stivers of Columbia, KY and Elizabeth Richards of Jamestown, KY.

The family extends special thanks to Ms. Sharon Huff and the faithful team of caregivers, as well as the Amedisys Hospice services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Andrews will be held in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church at
2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, with Rev. Tom Elliott and Rev. Chad Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.  The family is at the home.

Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Jones Chapel United Methodist Church at 5601 Highway 29 Danielsville, GA 30633.

Online condolences may be made by visiting www.pruittfhroyston.com.
