MELVIN HALL, 95, SOMERSET

 
Melvin Christopher "Mutt" Hall, 95, of Somerset, KY passed from this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset after a brief illness. He was born on August 19, 1923 in Somerset, Kentucky, Son of the late Robert J. Hall and Zona Tomlinson Hall. 
 
Melvin was a retired Carman for the Southern Railroad in Danville, KY after a number of years of dedicated service. He took great pride in his service to his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant; He was a decorated World War II Veteran. Melvin was of the Pentecostal faith and member of the old Church of God of Prophesy. He was a Lifetime member of the NRA and had a genuine passion for guns, including loading, reloading and shooting and was an Expert Marksman. Melvin was talented in woodworking and carpentry. He worked in the old Ferguson shop and handmade foot lockers, many of these were sold to the government for distribution. In his leisure-time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. Melvin was a loving, kind and generous man that was always willing to help others. He was a dedicated husband, father and family man and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
 
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years and mother of his children; Nancy Catherine Swartz Hall who passed away in 1980, his brothers; Chester Hall, Robert Hall, Donald Hall and Charles Hall, and sisters; Lorena Sluder and Martha Land.
 
SURVIVORS: wife; Leta Grace Bertram Hall, whom he married in 1988 in Jamestown, Kentucky, his sons; Robert Lee (Susan) Hall of Somerset, Kentucky, and James Melvin (Phyllis) Hall of Nancy, Kentucky, daughters; Onalee Arredondo of Dearborn, Michigan, Linda Marie Trimble of Frankfort, Kentucky, Joyce Ann (Jerry) Burnett of Somerset, Kentucky, a sister; Nell Smith of Lexington, Kentucky, grandchildren; David J. Hall, Kathleen Hall Ali, Melissa Johnstone, Terra Hutcherson, Michael Trimble, Anthony Trimble, Chris Burnett, Catherine Carrier, Carey Kepford, Marjorie Smith, Dennis Wettstein, Jon Hall, Alisha Thompson and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory 
 
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Burnett and Bro. Emmett Lanham and Pat Brinson officiating
 
Interment: Mill Springs National Cemetery with full military honors presented by American Legion Post #38.
 
Pallbearers: Jon Hall, Anthony Trimble, Michael Trimble, Jonathan Burnett, Hobert Henderson, Ethan Grubb, Michael Robert Grubb, Nicholas Carrier, Edgar Johnstone and Chris Burnett.
