JOYCE LOY HOOTS, 84, COLUMBIA

 
Joyce (Loy) Hoots, 84, of Columbia, KY passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 following a sudden illness. She was born March 26, 1935 in Russell County, KY to the late James Alexander and Gertrude (Lawless) Loy. 
 
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister. Joyce moved to Adair County at the age of 18, and in 1953 met and married the love of her life, Walter (Gene) Hoots, who preceded her in death in February 2018.  
 
Joyce was also preceded in death by 2 brothers & their wives: Donald Loy & wife Joyce and Kenneth Loy & wife Deanna; 2 brothers-in-law: Royce Wilson and Rev. Bob Hoots; 3 sisters-in-law: Phyllis Loy, Ellen Loy, and Shirley (Hoots) Frank.
 
SURVIVORS:
3 children: Mayor Pamela Hoots of Columbia, KY; Dr. Cathy (Hoots) Abell & husband Paul of Bowling Green, KY; Honorable Douglas Hoots & wife Tami of Lexington, KY
3 grandchildren: Dr. Caitlyn (Abell) Bruns & husband Alex of Ames, Iowa; Ryan Hoots & wife Heather of Lexington, KY; Anna Claire Hoots of Lexington, KY
1 great-grandchild: Palmer Rose Hoots of Lexington, KY
Her grand dog: Jakky (who visited her daily)
5 siblings: Clifford Loy, Billie J. Loy, Bobbie (Randall) Jones, Nellie Wilson, and Charles D. (Lynda) Loy 
1 sister-in-law: Peggy Hoots
1 brother-in-law: Anton Frank
 
Funeral Service: Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00amCT at Grissom Martin Funeral Home with Rev. David Kemp and Rev. Brent Piatt officiating and music provided by Barney & Mary Ann Burns and Sharon & Phyllis Payne.
 
Visitation: Thursday, January 9, 2020 beginning at 4:00pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home
 
Memorials can be made to the Walter (Gene) and Joyce Hoots Scholarship Fund and may be made at the funeral home or at Community Trust Bank, 1005 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY 42728 with designation noted to the scholarship fund. The scholarship is utilized in supporting an Adair County student, pursuing secondary education in a vocational field.
