Lois Virginia Cherry, 95, was born October 3, 1926, in Macon County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Pattie Dickens Mitchell and Henry Howard Mitchell.
She married Corporal Donnie Cherry on June 8, 1943. Donnie served in the U.S. Army during WWII and fought at Omaha Beach and in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, they made their home in Lafayette, Tennessee before moving to Russell Springs in the summer of 1953. After Donnie’s death in 1982, Virginia cared for pre-school children in her home for several years. This was something she enjoyed along with working in her flowers and cooking for her family. She loved her grandchildren and would always say how proud she was of them, and that they were the “smartest of all grandchildren”. She was a member of the Russell Springs Christian Church for many years.
In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved son, Benny Joe Cherry in 1967; and by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
