GARY D. MARVIN, 81, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

Gary D. Marvin, 81, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs. Born April 27, 1940 in St. Clair, MI, he was the son of Wayne and Daisy (Isaac) Marvin, the 10th of 12 children.

As an entrepreneur and talented “Jack of All Trades”, he started his own auto collision repair shop and nursery/landscaping businesses. A rebel in his early years, he enjoyed racing snowmobiles and motorcycles; but his true passions included country dancing, home construction, and designing and building the myriad of projects his creative mind could dream up - new designs for snowmobiles, motorcycles, trucks, boats, and even highway billboards. Later in life, he fabricated both wood and aluminum boats and traveled the Midwest, Southern, and Eastern U.S. waterways, in his truly unique houseboat designed to navigate rough waters … a trip chronicled in the Houseboat Magazine article “The Great Circle”. His most recent project completed just this year was a 34’ houseboat he designed and built with his son.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Marvin and a daughter, Tanya Marvin.

SURVIVORS:
His partner of 29 years: Margie Dobson and her family
1 daughter: Shar (Ron) Block &
3 sons: Jeff (Karen) Marvin, Stuart Marvin, and Gary (Gabriel) Marvin
5 grandchildren: Alex (Kayla) Block, Kelby & Riley Marvin, Susie (Gregg) Jones, and Andrew (Megan) Marvin
Great-grandsons: Asher Block, Calvin and Cory Hughey
Great-granddaughters: Skylar, Tanner (Whitney) Hughey

Viewing will be at Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs, KY on Saturday, November 13, 2021 beginning at 11:30amCT and ending with a small service at 12:30pmCT, presided over by Pastor Christian Naylor.

Upon Gary’s request, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried next to his late wife and daughter, Susan and Tanya, in West Branch, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your local Hospice organization.

Bernard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
