DORIS JEAN STARGEL HOLMES, 79, COLUMBIA. KY


Doris Jean Stargel Holmes, 79, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at her residence. She was born on July 17, 1942 in Adair County to the late Jake and Danford Price Stargel. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ray Holmes; a daughter, Peggy Luttrell; and 13 siblings: Clarence, Gordon, Willie, Tom, Dallas, Jerry, Ora Lee, Alta, Nina, Betty, Darlene, Clemie, and Mary Jane.

 

Doris was a member of the Purdy Separate Baptist Church and formerly taught Sunday school at the church. She enjoyed her chickens and cooking for her family, friends and neighbors.

 

SURVIVORS:

3 children: Anthony Ray Holmes, Marcella York (Steve) and Annette Holmes all of Columbia, KY

6 grandchildren: Dean White (Mary Lee), Red Holmes (Nancy), Jean George, Megan Wright (Thomas), Lula Wheat (Chris) and Everett Luttrell (Danielle)

18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild

1 brother: Jimmy Stargel (Martha) of Fairdale, KY

Several nieces & nephews including a special nephew, Jessie Bryant

 

Funeral service: 1:00pmCT on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Holmes officiating

 

Burial: New Hope Cemetery

 

Visitation: Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pmCT and on Wednesday morning until time for the service
