James Harvey “Jim” Evans, 85, of Columbia, KY passed away December 8, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Glasgow, KY on December 17, 1936 to the late Grover and Mary Elizabeth Warren Evans.
Mr. Evans was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He became a Kentucky State Trooper in 1960, climbing the ranks over the years from Post Commander at Post 15 to Major, and achieving Lt. Colonel before retiring in 1988 with 28 years of service. Jim also enjoyed hunting, farming, horse races, antique cars and playing all card games.

2 daughters: Jodie Janes (Anthony) of Columbia, KY and Jackie McCloud (Brent) of Dandridge, TN
5 grandchildren: Brandon Coomer, Adam Coomer (Megan), Haley Tennant, Meagan Coomer, and Shelby Tennant
2 step-grandchildren: Brittany Bryant (Brady) and Alex Janes
3 great-grandchildren: Payton, Riley Jo, and Boston Coomer
1 step-great-grandchild: Palmer Bryant
1 sister: Becky Taylor

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 siblings: Caroline and Rosie Lee Thomas, Dr. Harold Evans, and Rev. William Julius Evans.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Hadley officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation: Monday, December 12, 2022 from 4:00-8:00pmCT and Tuesday from 10:00am-1:00pmCT with Kentucky State Police Honor Guard
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trooper Island.
