William Elford Selby, 92, Russell County, KY

William Elford Selby, 92, of Russell County, KY passed away on Friday, November 29, 2023. He was born on August 14, 1931 in Russell County to the late Lilburn and Myrtie “Bloyd” Selby.

Mr. Selby grew up alongside two brothers: Orvis and Herlon Selby and a sister who passed away in infancy. His roots were deeply planted on the Selby family farm, shaping his values and character. During the Korean War, he honorably served in the Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Hale and fatefully met the mother of his children during shore leave in Boston. In 1955, like many others, he transitioned to city life, securing a job with General Electric in Louisville. Then he married Caroline Bennett twice (once in Kentucky and again in Massachusetts), and they had 2 daughters and a son.

After experiencing life’s twists, including divorce, he retired from General Electric after 30+ years and returned to the family farm thereafter. This rustic haven remained his home until just a few weeks ago, a testament to his deep connection of his origins. William believed in God and displayed a profound love for every creature on Earth, refraining from causing harm even to a mouse. He dearly loved his pets, everything from a pet box turtle to his late dog and kitty cat “Tiger”.

SURVIVORS:
2 daughters: Linda Caldwell (Tom) and Teresa Scherffius (Steve)
(One like a daughter to him): Kasey Kinnaird-Meece
2 sons: David Selby and William Kinnaird (Ashley)
6 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren
Many other friends & family
