Garry Coomer, 72, of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 18, 1951 in Columbia, KY to the late Jerome and Gladys Munday Coomer.
Mr. Coomer was a former member and song leader for Morris Chapel United Methodist Church and most recently attended the Pleasant Ridge Church. Garry has been an employee of Lindsey Wilson College Plant Operations since he was 19 years old, serving the college for over 52 years, longer than any other employee. Garry was willing to serve the college in any way possible and always with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. Garry’s work at Lindsey Wilson College has not gone unnoticed as the school named the street where the physical plant building is located, Gary Coomer Drive, to honor his lifetime of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings: Woodson, James Maxey, Charles Glenn, Alton, Larry, and John Wayne Coomer, and a sister-in-law, Faye Coomer.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 12:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Edwards officiating
Burial: Morris Chapel Cemetery
Visitation: Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pmCT and Wednesday until time for the service
Pallbearers: Eric Coomer, Lewis Clark, Jimmy Bottoms, Shannon Tedrow, Gage Shive, and Jason Bennett
Honorary Pallbearers: Lindsey Wilson College Plant Operations, Ronnie Bragg, Donnie Bragg, and Abby Corbin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Morris Chapel Cemetery Fund or to the Lindsey Wilson College Scholarship Fund in memory of Garry Coomer, and can be left at the funeral home.
