Obituaries

Carl

Carl “Whitey” Mings, 75, of Columbia, KY passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Russell County Hospital. He was born at home on October 22, 1948 in Columbia, KY to the late Harlin and Tolou Mings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters: Russell and Kenneth Mings, Freda Stotts, Helen Bradley and Ruby Cave.

Carl served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, spending two years stationed in Germany.  Upon his return, he embarked on a successful career as a skilled mason for four decades where he was affectionately known as “Whitey” due to his light blond hair and fair complexion.  In his later years, Carl found joy on the open road driving a truck for Campbell’s Trucking and Gaskin’s Fertilizer, always accompanied by his loyal companion, Harley Pup.

An avid outdoorsman, Carl found solace in tending to his garden and casting a line in the water.  He possessed a natural ability to make everyone feel at ease and his quick wit brought laughter to those closest to him.  A devout member of Calvary Temple Church in the Garlin community, Carl cherished his faith and the bonds he shared with his church family.
