Herbert "Herb" Begley, 96, Russell County, KY

Herbert "Herb" Begley, 96, of Russell County, KY departed this life peacefully at Hospice of Lake Cumberland in Somerset, KY on Monday, September 29, 2025. He was born September 28, 1929 in Beattyville, KY, a son of the late Wilgus Begley and Bertie Mae (Tirey) Begley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nine siblings: Ruth Durbin, Lucille Begley, Lucinda Begley, Elizabeth Horn, Olema Begley, Viola Tharp, John Begley, Billy Begley, and Betty Hollon.

From April 13, 1948 to April 12, 1952, Herb proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. A barber by trade, Herb spent most of his career at Eastown Barbers in Dayton, Ohio where he built countless friendships and left a lasting impression on all who sat in his chair. After retiring as a barber, he joined the staff at Cornerstone Baptist Temple, working with the building maintenance team. In 2004, he and his wife moved from Dayton to Russell County, KY. Herb loved the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and working with his hands. Gifted with many trades, he could fix nearly anything. He was known for his humor, kindness, and unforgettable pranks, which created cherished memories for friends and family alike.
He raised his children in Dayton and was not only a father to Barry and Carrie, but also a father figure to many nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids. His influence stretched far beyond his immediate family.

A longtime member of Cornerstone Baptist Temple, Herb sang in the choir and volunteered countless hours serving wherever needed. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Herb was loved by many, and his legacy lives on in the lives he touched through his generosity, skill, wit, and warmth.
