Obituaries

Bro. David Coffey, 76, Russell Springs, KY

David Coffey, 76, of Russell Springs, KY passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital. He was born on May 18, 1949 in Kenton County, KY.

He came home to Russell County in 1951 when he was adopted by the late Hollist and Aleane Coffey. David was a graduate of Russell County High School, Campbellsville College, and Western Kentucky University. He was a retired teacher from the Russell County Board of Education, teaching at Union Chapel Elementary, Russell Springs Elementary and Russell County High School. He enjoyed farming and coaching multiple sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and softball.

However, his true calling in life was service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Bro. David was ordained as a minister in the South Kentucky Association of Separate Baptists in 1978. He pastored several churches in Russell, Casey, Pulaski, and Adair Counties. His last 28 years of ministry were spent at New Hope Separate Baptist Church in Columbia, before retiring in 2022 due to health issues. David was the truest definition of a pastor. He tirelessly led and cared for the members of his congregation and beyond, driving countless miles to visit the sick, be present for surgeries, births, deaths, funerals, or just to stop and say hello. David made weekly rounds at three nursing homes and regularly visited hospitals all over the state. He leaves a legacy with this dedication and will always be remembered as a good and faithful servant.

SURVIVORS:

His devoted wife of almost 58 years: Joyce Conover Coffey, who lovingly cared for him though many health challenges

10 grandchildren: Nathaniel and Megan Coffey; Jadon, Ella, and Cora Coffey; and Piper, Lila, Levi, Easton, and Declan McReynolds

David was proud of his family and loved them dearly. He always encouraged his children and grandchildren in everything they did, placing a great emphasis on education, but above all the importance of faith in Jesus.

Later in his life, David had the opportunity to get to know some of his biological family. He is survived by his brothers: Gary Mitchell, Mark Murray, and Tim Murray.
