Jerry Duke Westerfield, M.D., 84, passed away on January 30, 2026. He was born in Ohio County, KY on October 14, 1941, a son of Fred and Margaret Westerfield.
Dr. Westerfield grew up on a dairy farm with his five brothers. He graduated from Hartford High School, the University of Kentucky, and the UK Medical School. He completed his internship at the University of Mississippi in Jackson, MS and his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Harvard's Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, MA. He completed a Diagnostic Radiology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and then a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Westerfield began his career at the Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY and then practiced radiology at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Florida for 25 years.
In 2001, he returned home to Kentucky and spent the next 17 years as the Radiologist at Russell County Hospital. He was also on the staff of Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg , Clinton County Hospital in Albany, and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He retired from the practice of medicine in July 2017.
Dr. Westerfield was a proud Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in U-Tapao, Thailand and MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. In his retirement, he continued his lifelong love of learning as a Donovan Scholar and was a fixture on campus at Lindsey Wilson University. He was beloved in his community for his generosity and love of the fine arts
