Johnnie V. Popplewell, 67, Russell County, KY

 
Johnnie V. Popplewell, 67, of the Eli community of Russell County, KY passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY.  He was born on February 27, 1959 in Somerset, KY, a son of the late Grant and Lorene Popplewell.  
 
Mr. Popplewell was a retired farmer and school bus driver for the Russell County Board of Education.  He attended Pine Grove (Sunshine) Separate Baptist Church.
 
SURVIVORS:
His wife: Sherry L. Popplewell of Russell County
3 stepchildren: Amanda (Anthony) Wooldridge of Lawrenceburg, Joshua Popplewell, and Adam (Whitney) Johnson of Russell County
3 grandchildren: Skylor (Mykaela) Lee, Karlie Scaggs, and Levi Popplewell
1 great-grandchild: Maggie Lee
1 brother: Ronnie (Trish) Popplewell
Nephew, Jason Popplewell
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, LaTonya Popplewell Scaggs.
 
Graveside Service: Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 2:00pmCT at the Pine Grove (Sunshine) Separate Baptist Church Cemetery
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Donate Life Kentucky at  https://www.donatelifeky.org. These gifts are a tribute to the profound gratitude for the gift of life Johnnie received through two kidney transplants.
