Janis Garrett, 90, of Columbia, KY, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of her community, passed away peacefully at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow, KY, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 26, 2026. She was born on July 6, 1935 in New Jersey, a daughter of the late Jonathon Davidson and LaBerta Wood.
Janis moved with her family in the 1970s and built a new, loving home in Columbia, KY. She creating a warm and welcoming household that became a gathering place for family and friends. A long-time parishioner of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia, Janis served others with quiet strength and deep faith. She held numerous positions within the church, generously giving her time and talents to support its mission and ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 loving years, John “Jack” Garrett.
SURVIVORS:
2 sons: Brian (Casi) Garrett and Mark (Chasidy) Garrett
6 cherished grandchildren: Tasha, BJ, Caitlin, Cailean, Noah, and Ainslee
Her family will carry forward the values she instilled—faith, kindness, loyalty, and the importance of putting loved ones first.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Janis’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia, KY with Rev. Johnson Thekkudan officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in memory of Janis Garrett.
