James Robert “J.R.” Coffey, 74, of Columbia, KY passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was born on January 25, 1952 in Knifley, KY to the late Robert and Agnes Louise Taylor Coffey.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Irvin.
J.R. was known for his work as an auto body man and as a former employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, where friends knew him by the nickname “Catfish.” He built a life marked by hard work, familiar friendships, and the kind of easygoing presence that left an impression on those around him. He found joy in the things he loved most, including riding motorcycles, old cars, and spending time with family and friends. He was also an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan, and that enthusiasm was part of the spirit he carried through life.

4 great-grandchildren: Theo Smith, Shepherd Smith, Jace Rooks, Cash Thrasher (& one on the way)
2 sisters: Judy Stephens (Kyle) and Linda Smith (Ricky)
