LEXINGTON, KY – In celebration of America’s 250th birthday this summer, donors can show their patriotism by donating blood at this upcoming Kentucky Blood Center blood drive in their community.

KBC is commemorating the United States Semiquincentennial with its “Red, White and Blue Bell” celebration. As a thank you for their civic engagement, donors at this drive will receive a “United We Give” T-shirt and a voucher for a free pint of ice cream – an American staple – from Blue Bell. All items are while supplies last. Additionally, one donor will win a $100 gift card sponsored by Commonwealth's Attorney Matthew Leveridge.

The Russell County Community Blood Drive will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 11:30am–5:30pmCT at the South Ky RECC Community Room, 2405 N Main St, Jamestown, KY.

Donating blood is considered a profound act of patriotism. One in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime for a wide range of treatments, but because blood cannot be manufactured, local patients rely entirely on the generosity of donors who selflessly donate to help others.

KBC needs 400 donors a day to provide a healthy supply of blood to more than 70 local hospitals in Kentucky. Blood donations historically dwindle during the summer because of warm-weather activities, family vacations and no school – unfortunately coinciding with trauma season when blood transfusions often increase. 

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.
