KSP Conducts Three Death Investigations in Adair County

COLUMBIA, Ky. (April 21, 2026) – In the morning hours of April 20, 2026, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 received a report of a shooting incident that led Troopers to discover three individuals deceased at three separate residences.

KSP Post 15 received a call from the Adair County 911 Center requesting Troopers to respond with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) to a reported shooting incident at a residence on Chestnut Grove Road in Adair County. Troopers were told by the 911 Center that an individual had reported that his brother, identified as 37-year-old Michael Adam Curry, had been shot at the residence. Upon law enforcement’s arrival, an ACSO Deputy began receiving multiple rounds of gunfire coming from the residence. The Deputy sought cover near her cruiser until she could be safely extracted from the area in front of the residence. The shooter, 38-year-old Ryan Sneed, of Columbia, barricaded himself inside the residence. The KSP Special Response Team responded to the residence to assist Post 15 Troopers until Mr. Sneed could be secured.

During the lengthy barricade, KSP learned that Mr. Sneed had made threats to kill his family and began attempts to check on the welfare of his family members. Detectives went to a residence on Lakeview Drive in Adair County to attempt to contact Mr. Sneed’s 67-year-old mother, Joyce Sneed, who was located deceased in the residence. Detectives also went to a residence on Henson Road in Adair County to attempt to contact Mr. Sneed's 63-year-old aunt, Debra Clark, who was also found deceased in that residence. The Adair County Coroner pronounced both individuals deceased at each residence. Thankfully, all other family members were located and found to be safe throughout the day.

More information detailing the resolution of the barricade situation can be found in a separate news release. Once the barricade was concluded, KSP entered the residence to continue the investigation of the shooting incident and located Michael Adam Curry deceased inside. The Adair County Coroner pronounced Mr. Curry deceased at the scene.

The investigations of the murders of Joyce Sneed, Debra Clark, and Michael Adam Curry continue and are being led by Post 15 Detective Josh Dicken. KSP was assisted by numerous law enforcement and emergency services personnel, both from Adair County and surrounding counties.

KSP Investigates Trooper-Involved Shooting in Adair County; 4 People Killed including Suspect

COLUMBIA, Ky. (April 21, 2026) - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 15 in Columbia to investigate a trooper-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, April 20, shortly before 7:00 p.m. CDT in Adair County.

The initial investigation indicates that officers from the Adair County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) responded yesterday to a disturbance call at a residence on Chestnut Grove Road just before 11:00 a.m. CDT. ACSO deputies and another individual encountered Mr. Ryan Sneed, a 39-year-old male from Columbia, Ky. Mr. Sneed was armed with a firearm and began shooting at the deputy and the other individual, and they took cover remaining pinned down for several hours. Additional law enforcement agencies, KSP troopers and officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival were immediately fired upon by Mr. Sneed, who was barricaded in the residence. Shortly after shots were fired, the KSP Special Response Team (SRT) was requested to respond, and upon their arrival, successfully rescued both the pinned-down deputies and another individual and escorted them to safety.

Over several hours, law enforcement attempted to communicate with Mr. Sneed and negotiate a peaceful resolution. Throughout much of the afternoon, Mr. Sneed periodically continued firing at law enforcement, who returned fire on several occasions. Shortly before 7:00 p.m., Mr. Sneed exited the residence armed with a firearm. Members of the KSP SRT discharged their agency-issued firearms, striking Mr. Sneed. Mr. Sneed was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Adair County Coroner. No law enforcement members were injured during this incident.

Throughout the course of this incident, KSP Post 15 responded to two other locations in Adair County where two separate individuals were located deceased. Initial information indicates Mr. Sneed may be a person of interest in those death investigations. Additionally, while securing the scene at the incident location on Chestnut Grove Road, KSP located an individual deceased inside the residence. KSP Post 15, Columbia, is conducting the death investigations of these three decedents. Further information about those investigations can be found in a separate news release.

The KSP CIRT is conducting the ongoing investigation into the trooper-involved shooting.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines for completing investigations vary depending on the complexity of the case.

KSP Investigates Cumberland County Murder

BURKESVILLE, Ky. (April 15, 2026) – During the evening hours of April 14, 2026, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 received a call from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) requesting investigative assistance regarding a shooting incident at a residence on Red Banks Road in Cumberland County.

KSP Troopers and Detectives responded to the area and launched an investigation into the incident. The preliminary investigation found that the CCSO had received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Red Banks Rd. Upon the arrival of the CCSO Deputy, along with EMS personnel, they discovered that the male occupant, identified as 60-year-old James Edens, of Burkesville, had suffered a gunshot wound. Mr. Edens was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Cumberland County Coroner.

Detectives learned that Mr. Edens and his wife, Heather Edens, 52, of Burkesville, were involved in a verbal altercation at a residence, also on Red Banks Road, just prior to the vehicle collision. During the altercation, it was determined that Ms. Edens had discharged a firearm, striking Mr. Eden with a projectile, causing injuries leading to his death.

Detectives subsequently arrested and charged Heather Edens with Murder. Ms. Edens was lodged in the Adair County Detention Center.

The investigation continues and is being led by Detective Zach Scott. He was assisted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Burkesville Police Department, Cumberland County EMS, Cumberland County Coroner’s Office, and other KSP Troopers and Detectives.

Gov. Beshear Provides Team Kentucky Update

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 15, 2026) – Today, Gov. Andy Beshear provided updates on the 2028 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials, the Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization Program, a new driver licensing system and portal, American Sign Language Awareness Day, the Kentucky State Police Cover the Cruiser fundraiser, Donate Life Month and where to buy the 2026 Governor’s Derby Celebration poster. The Governor named the Montgomery County High School Mock Trial Team as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Stars.

Louisville To Host 2028 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials
Earlier today, the Governor was in Louisville to make the major announcement that Louisville will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials at the KFC Yum! Center. The 2028 Summer Olympics will be the first Summer Olympics held in the United States in more than 30 years – and the Olympic gymnastics trials will be the first time the Olympic rings have ever been displayed in Kentucky. The Governor noted this event will spur economic activity in Louisville and the entire state, with visitors boosting local businesses, restaurants and hotels.

“This is a major win for this city and our entire commonwealth – and we worked hard to make it happen. I want to thank all the leaders who made this possible,” said Gov. Beshear. “In 2028, the tourism dollars spent here, as well as media coverage, will make a big impact. Our New Kentucky Home is beating record after record, and this is yet another step into the future.”

Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization Program
The Governor recognized the 10th anniversary of the Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program, which has improved workforce training, supported small businesses and attracted new industries across Eastern Kentucky. In the last decade, over $282 million in AMLER program funds have been awarded in the commonwealth. On April 13, the federal government announced $29.5 million in new funding for Kentucky in 2026 – and for this round of funding, opportunity is being extended to coal communities in Western Kentucky. Learn more and apply for funding here. Applications are open through May 11.

New Driver Licensing System
The Governor announced that a new, modernized driver licensing system and online portal will be launching this June, providing online services that help reduce wait times at regional offices and minimize paperwork. The improved system will replace the current, nearly 40-year-old system and allow Kentuckians to create accounts through the new portal, myDrive, that will enable them to pre-apply for a license, permit or ID, request a card replacement, check their current license standing, and more. For more, see the full release.

In March, the Governor announced that, since spring of 2025, average walk-in wait times at driver licensing regional offices have decreased from 49 to 12 minutes, and average appointment wait times have decreased from 25 to 10 minutes. The new system will help Team Kentucky build on this progress.

American Sign Language Awareness Day
Gov. Beshear recognized April 15 as American Sign Language (ASL) Awareness Day. The Governor honored the late Viriginia Moore for her advocacy to include ASL interpreters at government news conferences, as well as Rachel Morgan from the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, who currently serves as the ASL interpreter at Team Kentucky Updates.

“I want to thank my late friend Virginia, as well as our friend Rachel. Thanks to their efforts, they’ve undoubtedly helped save lives by getting important information to those who so often had been left out before,” said Gov. Beshear. “To every ASL interpreter across the commonwealth: Thank you. Your work ensures information is accessible to all Kentuckians – and we are grateful.”

Cover the Cruiser Fundraiser
The Governor encouraged Kentuckians to participate in the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Cover the Cruiser fundraiser, where KSP teams up with Special Olympics Kentucky athletes to collect donations. Through April 17, Kentuckians can visit participating grocery stores and donate a dollar to place a custom sticker on a KSP cruiser. The stickers represent Kentuckians’ support for athletes competing in the upcoming Special Olympics Kentucky Summer Games – and every dollar donated benefits Special Olympics Kentucky. Find participating KSP posts and grocery stores where you can donate here.

Donate Life Month
Gov. Beshear recognized April as Donate Life Month. The Governor highlighted that there are over 100,000 Americans in need of an organ transplant, including more than 1,000 Kentuckians. To learn more or to register to become a donor, visit RegisterMe.org or visit your regional driver licensing offices or circuit court clerk’s office. The Governor was joined by advocates from Donate Life KY, Network for Hope, Second Chance at Life, the National Kidney Foundation, UofL Health and UK Healthcare.

2026 Governor’s Derby Celebration Poster Now On Sale
The Governor announced that the 2026 Governor’s Derby Celebration poster, featuring a painting by artist Alexandrea Pangburn, is now available for purchase by the public through the Historic Properties Online Store.

Team Kentucky All-Stars
The Governor named the Montgomery County High School Mock Trial Team as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Stars. The team won the High School Mock Trial state championship in February. This is the team’s fourth time winning this title in five years. Additionally, the team’s courtroom artist, Olivia Robinson, won State Courtroom Artist for the third year in a row.

“To recognize this impressive team, I am naming them all, including their teachers and parents, as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Stars,” said Gov. Beshear. “Next month, this talented group will head to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the National Championship. Congratulations and good luck! All of Kentucky is cheering you on.”

DEA to Host the 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day 4/25

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will host the 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at nearly 4,200 locations nationwide.

Twice a year, DEA joins forces with local law enforcement and community groups to host DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, giving the public a safe and anonymous way to dispose of expired and unused prescription medications. By getting rid of unnecessary medications in the home, families can help prevent prescription drug misuse and reduce the potential for accidental poisonings.

“Removing unused and expired medications from your home and disposing of them properly is a simple but powerful step in preventing prescription drug misuse,” said DEA Administrator Terrance Cole. “DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a critical public safety initiative that we have hosted for 16 years. Its continued success is due, in large part, to our local and state law enforcement and community partners who continue to stand with us to make our communities safe.”

“Prescription drugs can be powerful and even lethal – especially when unmonitored,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Join us in the DEA’s National Take Back Day to lessen community risk from drug abuse and keep Americans safe!”

“I encourage everyone with excess prescription drugs to participate in DEA’s National Take Back Day and help prevent drug abuse and protect our children,” said National Drug Control Policy Director Sara Carter. “Our nation is safer and healthier when we keep prescription pills from falling into the wrong hands.”

“Cleaning out your home medicine cabinet and safely disposing of unneeded or expired medications is a great way to help safeguard the community by keeping potentially harmful pills off of our streets,” said Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott, head of DEA’s Louisville Field Division.  “It’s a small act that can pay big dividends.”

Since 2010, DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has provided an easy and accessible way to dispose of medications that could pose a threat if misused. Over the past 16 years, National Prescription Take Back Day has removed more than 20 million pounds of unwanted medications from communities across the United States.

Opioids, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine, are among the most misused prescription pain medications, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other forms of prescription drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should be securely sealed in their original container.

Syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs are not collected. To learn how to properly dispose of these items we encourage you to visit FDA.gov.

To find the Take Back Day location nearest you visit www.DEATakeBack.com

For those unable to participate in this month’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, there are more than 16,500 pharmacies, hospitals, and businesses that offer safe medication disposal year-round. In addition, many police departments also provide permanent drop boxes to ensure Every Day is Take Back Day.

The Ballard County Fiscal Court, on behalf of the city of Wickliffe, is performing due diligence on a 30-acre site along the Mississippi River. The project was approved for $50,000 in state funding.

Currently, $35 million is available for projects entering the due diligence stage in the latest round of KPDI. The projects have been reviewed by a third-party, independent site selection consultant, which evaluated, scored and submitted project recommendations to the Cabinet for Economic Development. The cabinet will consider each project and complete the final stage of due diligence for a recommendation of funding approval by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority in the coming months.

Including projects approved last week that use remaining funds, the two rounds of the previous iteration of the initiative – the KPDI Program of 2022 – have almost 100 projects approved statewide for nearly $93 million in funding. Including local contributions, these projects have generated over $516 million in investments in Kentucky’s sites and buildings portfolio.

To date, 51 companies have located on pilot PDI and KPDI funded sites, totaling over $5.7 billion in capital investment and creating over 7,400 new jobs.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Cabinet for Economic Development and the Kentucky Association for Economic Development (KAED). It provides state support for potential upgrades to sites and buildings across the commonwealth to ensure Kentucky remains a prime location for growing companies across all industry sectors.

Terri Bradshaw, president and CEO of KAED, highlighted the important role KPDI plays in the state’s economic success: “KPDI is designed to give Kentucky the competitive edge it needs to win major economic development projects on the national stage. These investments empower local developers to stand out and play a critical role in our long-term growth strategy. KPDI is already delivering transformative results for our economy, and I’m excited to see its continued impact in these 18 communities across the commonwealth.”

To date, Gov. Beshear and the Kentucky General Assembly have approved up to $170 million in funding for the initiative.

Site and building development projects are first evaluated by an independent consultant based upon all facets a prospective company would consider, from workforce availability, access to all infrastructure and detailed information on costs associated with development.

This is the highest investment figure secured during the tenure of any governor in the commonwealth’s history and $27 billion more than the next highest total.

Gov. Beshear has announced some of the largest economic development projects in state history, which have solidified Kentucky as the battery capital of the United States: AESC’s $2 billion, 2,000-job gigafactory project in Warren County; Ford Motor Co.’s $2 billion, 2,200-job commitment in Louisville, as well as its $2 billion, 2,100-job project at the Kentucky 1 plant in Hardin County; Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing’s $712 million investment, creating 1,572 jobs in Shelby County; and Toyota’s $1.3 billion investment in Scott County, among others.

The Governor’s administration also secured the largest General Fund budget surplus and Rainy Day Fund. In 2023, Kentucky recorded over 2 million jobs filled for the first time ever and has stayed above that number ever since.

Kentucky also secured rating increases from major credit rating agencies Fitch Ratings, S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s Investors Service.

Earlier this year, Site Selection magazine ranked Kentucky in the top five nationally and second in the South Central region for economic development projects per capita in its 2024 Governor’s Cup rankings. Site Selection also placed Kentucky second in the South Central region and No. 6 nationally in its 2025 Prosperity Cup ranking, which recognizes state-level economic development agencies for their success in landing capital investment projects.

Gov. Beshear also announced a new initiative, called New Kentucky Home, to increase economic investment, attain and attract talent and increase tourism across the state.

City of Columbia State Transportation Budget Inclusions

Today (Thursday), the City of Columbia is extremely pleased to announce that the Kentucky State Legislature has approved plans for two major transportation infrastructure improvements in Columbia.

The first one is Rice Drive and Watson Street, where a project will be undertaken to address major drainage issues and prevent the area from facing significant flooding. The project will be a massive step towards ensuring that residents in that area of Columbia are safe in their homes and not cut off from emergency services during flooding events. This project was placed under the Kentucky State road plan for fiscal year 2027.

The second project is Burkesville Loop which has been approved for funding under the Local Assistance Road Program (LARP). This project will return the road to suitable condition for Columbia’s citizens and keep the residents of that road safe.

Mayor Pamela Hoots and all of Columbia’s 5,000 citizens owe a massive debt of gratitude to Representative Amy Neighbors and Senate Majority Leader Max Wise for their tireless work on these two projects, both of which will have a profound effect on our community.

Dr. Steven Stack, secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, provided an update on the Our Healthy Kentucky Home initiative. The Governor named Kentucky State Police (KSP) Trooper Paul Thomas as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Star.

Economic Development
Gov. Beshear announced further momentum within the state’s speed-to-market and site development initiatives as 16 projects supporting future job growth and investment across 18 counties were approved for $12.4 million in state funding to improve Kentucky’s available sites.

Governor’s Derby Celebration Poster
Gov. Beshear and Lt. Gov. Coleman joinedKentucky Derby Festival President and CEO Matt Gibson during the Team Kentucky Update for the official unveiling of the 2026 Governor’s Derby Celebration poster, featuring a painting by artist Alexandrea Pangburn. The public will have the opportunity to purchase the 2026 Governor’s Derby Celebration poster later this month.

Online Boat Registration Renewal
Lt. Gov. Coleman announced that Team Kentucky is making it easier for boat owners to stay current on registrations with the launch of a new online renewal option that began on April 1. Boat owners can now skip a trip to their local county clerk’s office and renew their registration online to save valuable time.

Our Healthy Kentucky Home
Dr. Stack provided an update on Our Healthy Kentucky Home, an initiative to promote simple, positive and attainable goals to inspire and motivate Kentuckians on a journey to health and wellness. Over the next few months, the initiative is focusing on teen and young adult health. Dr. Stack emphasized nutrition, physical activity, healthy social connections and mental health as key components of health for teens and young adults. He also highlighted resources such as healthychildren.org, Kentucky Youth Thrive and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Kentucky African American Heritage Trail
The Governor announced the addition of 10 new sites along the Kentucky African American Heritage Trail, which celebrates and showcases African Americans’ contributions to both Kentucky and the nation. Click here to view a full list of sites on the trail.

Record Low Worker Injury Rate
Gov. Beshear announced that, following Team Kentucky’s work to enforce workplace safety and provide resources for employers, Kentucky’s workplace injury and illness rate has dropped to a new all-time low of 2.5 cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers. The previous record was set in the Governor’s first term. This is also the first time Kentucky’s incidence rate of nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses has declined to below the national average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Governor encouraged employers to continue to partner with Team Kentucky to ensure their facilities are as safe as possible. Visit KYSAFE.ky.gov to learn more.

Safe Digging Month
The Governor was joined by members of the Public Service Commission to recognize April as Safe Digging Month in the commonwealth. Gov. Beshear reminded Kentucky homeowners who may be preparing for home improvement projects, landscaping or construction work to call or visit the 811 website before digging. Utility lines like electricity, fiber optics, gas and water lie below the surface, and 811 provides around-the-clock underground facility location services.

Medicaid Cuts in the State Budget
On April 1, the Kentucky General Assembly passed its state budget. The Governor said there are major areas of concern with the budget and highlighted one of the biggest concerns: Medicaid. The state legislature made a $2.8 billion cut over two fiscal years to the state’s Medicaid budget and passed legislation that limits the state’s ability to keep Medicaid costs down.

Gov. Beshear said cuts to Medicaid will fuel across-the-board pay cuts for health-care workers at hospitals and clinics. Hospitals may have to cut maternity wards or other services. Kentuckians may not be able to see a doctor in their own community, even in a life-threatening emergency.

“This is cruel and shortsighted, and it risks the lives of our people. We should be expanding health care access to protect the lives of Kentuckians. But through the actions of the General Assembly, more lives will be at risk,” said Gov. Beshear. “We shouldn’t be in this position. I put forward a budget proposal that fully funded Medicaid, even with the increasing costs. But the political games and hard lines drawn by this General Assembly led us here.”

Team Kentucky All-Star
The Governor named KSP Trooper Paul Thomas as this week’s Team Kentucky All-Star following Trooper Thomas’s recognition as one of four finalists from across the United States for the International Association of Chiefs of Police Trooper of the Year Award. The recognition follows Trooper Thomas’s heroic actions to neutralize a dangerous situation and save the life of a Kentucky woman in January of last year.

“Trooper Thomas put himself in harm’s way to successfully save the life of a Kentuckian, and this national recognition is well-deserved,” said Gov. Beshear. “Trooper, I hope you know how grateful all of Kentucky is for your work and the work of your colleagues. Your courage and dedication are clear, which is why I’m proud to name you this week’s Team Kentucky All-Star.”

KSP to Conduct Safety Check Points

Kentucky State Police Post 15 will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Green, Taylor, Marion, Washington, Russell, Casey, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton, and Cumberland counties.

These checkpoints will be conducted as part of Post 15's highway safety efforts. Well Known Local Dentist Passed Away after Hit & Run Accident in Tennessee

Sevierville Police Department investigators arrested 34-year-old Enrique Estrada Martinez of Knoxville this afternoon on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death (T.C.A. 55-10-101) and driving without a license (T.C.A. 55-50-301).

The arrest was the result of an investigation by the SPD Accident Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigations Division after a deceased pedestrian was discovered early Monday.

Martinez was located in Knoxville and taken into custody by SPD officers with the assistance of the Knoxville Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. SPD also thanks the Sevier County Sheriff's Office and Knox County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in searching for the Ford Transit vehicle.
