Ronnie Wayne Blackwell, 68, of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, April 26, 2024 at T.J. Health Columbia. He was born on September 6, 1955 in Adair County to the late Robert Sr. and Ruth William Blackwell.

 

Mr. Blackwell was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and was a graduate of Campbellsville University. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Elizabeth Wayne Pickett, 96, formerly of Columbia, KY died Friday, April 26, 2024 at 1:10 A.M. at the Hospice House in Bowling Green. She was born February 9, 1928 in Green County, KY to the late Olie Atwell and Nettie Beulah Dawson Coffey. 
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Colby Pickett; her sons-in-law: Charles Jones and Billy Grant; and the following siblings: Winfrey Coffey, Ray Coffey, Naomi Coffey, Gertrude Garrison and Kathleen Squires.
 
Wayne was a member of Columbia Baptist Church, a homemaker and enjoyed fishing and working with the garden produce, being the best of any cutting off corn.

Kenneth Dale Burton, 66, of Knifley, KY passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Glasgow, KY on February 21, 1958 to the late Finis Edwin and Jewell McQueary Burton.

 

Mr. Burton enjoyed talking on his CB radio, where he was known as “Triple Nickel”, working on lawnmowers, and spending time with his family and friends.

Richard was retired from Lake Cumberland State Park and was an avid farmer. He had proclaimed his faith in Christ and was a member of Mt Olive Baptist Church in Russell Springs.


In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Audrey Spivey; father in law, Bob Spivey; and brothers-in-law: Michael Elliott and Jeff Wilson.

Brandy Lynne “Bernie” Atkins, 48, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, KY. She was born September 24, 1975 in Somerset, a daughter of Randall and Lynne Hines Polston.  
 
Along with being a registered nurse, Brandy had earned other titles such as “Chaos Coordinator” at the Old Homeplace and as the “free therapist”, always being willing to give advice, bend her ear or lend a shoulder to a friend or coworker in need.
 
She was fondly known as "Momma Brandy” to her biological children and to many children she “adopted” along the way. Brandy loved being around the water in the summer and taking big adventures with the kids. She was a shopaholic and loved her Mountain Dews and breakfast burritos (with salsa!).

Larry Dale Robertson, 63, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Somerset, KY. He was born July 16, 1960 in Russell Springs, a son of the late Arnold and Darlene Burton Robertson.  
 
Larry, known as “Puddin” to some, was quite a character. He enjoyed joking around and making people laugh. Larry was also affectionately called “Homelite” because of his genius-like mechanical abilities and knack for being able to work on any kind of engine. His brothers and sisters say he was “ornery”, but a kind, caring person with a big heart for helping others. Larry will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

She was born in Louisville, KY on October 28, 1956 to the late Fred Lawrence Lee, Sr. and Doris Jean Milburn Montgomery of Columbia, KY (who survives).

 

Ms. Bishop enjoyed doing yard work, flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Debra Lynn (ex-Hopper, ex-Mahan) Tucker, 64, originally from Jamestown, KY, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Fair Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. She was born August 19, 1959 in Russell County, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Auda Mae Wright Tucker.

 

Debra eventually moved to Lexington and earned her master's degree in English at the University of Kentucky. She was at heart a story teller, an advocate for Appalachia, and the soul of every party. Debra embodied the dichotomy of modern feminism, a stay at home mother who went back to school for a masters degree; a published author who could croon karaoke or weave a yarn to her grandbabies. She had a passion for books and spent many years in bookstores, inspiring a love of literature in those around her. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving son, Michael Gregory Hopper.

Mary Alma Hubbard Keltner, 92, of the Clay Ridge community of Adair County, KY passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Adair County on July 26, 1931 to the late Elbert Ross and Minnie Banks Hubbard.
 
Mrs. Keltner was retired from Green Hill Nursing Home as a cook, worked in various sewing factories, and was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and always made sure everyone ate when they were in her home. Mrs. Keltner also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, working puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.

Eric Matthew Antle, 56, of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Kingsport, TN on October 23, 1967 to the late Marvin and Viola Templeton Antle. 

 

Mr. Antle was a retired Chief Deputy Jailer for the Adair County Regional Jail and previously worked as a Deputy with the Louisville Metro Jail for 3 years. Eric was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed playing golf and following University of Kentucky sports.

Ricky Lane Coomer, 68, of Marrowbone, KY passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Adair County, KY on December 20, 1955 to the late Coy Odell and Mary Magdalene Morrison Coomer. 

 

Mr. Coomer was of the Christian faith and made a career drilling oil and water wells all over the state for Jimmy Reliford Drilling and Joe Balance Drilling. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, staying at his cabin and spending time with his family and friends.

Rosie Jane Zimmerman DeHart, 84, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Monday, April 15, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Richmond, KY. She was born November 8, 1939 in Russell County, a daughter of the late Otha Green and Synthia Elizabeth Fox Zimmerman. 

Ms. Jane was the widow of the late Hollis DeHart, a beloved mother and grandmother, retired teacher and counselor. She was a graduate of Campbellsville University and the University of Kentucky, where she earned her Rank 1 status. Ms. Jane taught special education and served as a guidance counselor in the Russell County School System for over 35 years. She grew up in and was baptized into the fellowship at Square Oak Separate Baptist Church, and later moved her membership to Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church.

Lula Clarkson Pettey, 85, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation. She was born at home, in Casey County, on September 10, 1938, a daughter of the late James and Hazel Lillian Sanders Clarkson.
 
Lula was a retired home economics teacher and food service manager with the Russell County Board of Education. After retiring from the school system, Lula worked for Home Health Care and the KOA Campground. She was a member of the Russell County Homemakers. Lula lived a very colorful and fulfilled life. Her creative mindset allowed her to accomplish anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed making pottery, crafts, and crocheting, just to name a few. Lula loved karaoke and was a huge Elvis fan.

Michael Edward Foley, 70, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY after a short illness. He was born in Russell Springs on March 17, 1954, a son of the late Marvin and Louise Foley.  
 
Michael married Barbara Sue Anderson on January 1, 1989 and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2023. Michael & Barbara shared many years of marriage; they loved to watch UK sports and live life together. He was a long-time farmer and construction worker.
 
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three siblings: Helen Foley, Edwin Foley, and Bruce Foley; and by one grandchild, Warren Chase Blakey.

Timmy Ray Stephens, 61, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was born September 7, 1962 in Anderson, Indiana, a son of Jean Stephens Hubbard and the late Elbert Stephens. 
 

Tim was a farmer and a “Jack-of-all-trades.” He milked cows, grew tobacco and vegetables commercially, and was the co-owner of Stephens’ Nursery. He was a welder, his own personal veterinarian, and a carpenter. When it came to farming, you name it - he could pretty much do it.

Mark Anthony Deel, 43, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. He was born July 20, 1980 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late James Galbreath and Brenda Polston Galbreath (who survives). 

 

Mark seemed to know just about everyone in Russell County. He loved playing pool, going fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

Deva Anderson, 80, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. She was born on September 14, 1943 in the Font Hill community, a daughter of the late Everett “Hook” and Dona Wells Wilson.  
 
Mrs. Deva was a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. She was a lady who had a big heart and a giving spirit. Mrs. Deva never met a stranger and loved to joke around and laugh. She was a great cook and enjoyed working with her flowers. Mrs. Deva loved her family dearly.

Timothy "Timmy" Russell Fox, 64, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY after a short illness.

Timmy was a loving son, father, and brother. He was fun-spirited and loved to joke around. Timmy loved spending time with his family and friends, especially if it involved UK basketball. He had a heart for animals and shared a special bond with his loyal companion, his dog Eli. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Timothy was preceded in death by his wife Tammy Fox, his parents Cuthburt and Audeen Fox, and his brother Roy Fox.

Yvonne Popplewell, 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 30, 1937, a daughter of the late Cosby Popplewell and Ollie Johnson Popplewell.
 

Yvonne was a member of the Russell Chapter #432 Order of the Eastern Star and attended Coffey’s Chapel Church for many years. Yvonne was the owner of Alligator Dock #1 in partnership with her brother until his death in 2000. After her brother’s death, she remained owner until spring 2006, at which time she sold the dock. She loved the lake and the many friends she made over the years, especially the houseboat customers. Yvonne enjoyed spending time in Fort Myers, Florida. She treasured her time and memories shared with her beloved dog, Chase.

Ron Luttrell, 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born to Arnett and Thelma Holt Luttrell on February 19, 1938 in Russell Springs. 
 
Ron attended Russell County High School. In 1955, he began serving his country in the U.S. Navy. After two years of service, Ron married the love of his life, Oleda Emerson, where they completed his remaining duty time in Jacksonville, Florida. 
 
Ron was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Somerset and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an airplane pilot and loved flying and playing golf. Ron also enjoyed fishing and was an avid UK sports fan. More than anything, Ron enjoyed being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren.

Her laughter echoed the simple joys of life, and her willpower reflected the honorable, disciplined character she embodied. Cathy leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her family.

Barbara Jean Bloyd, 79, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, KY.  She was born November 3, 1944 in Russell Springs, the daughter of Fred Grayum and Sallie “Francis” Ballenger Grayum.  
 
Mrs. Bloyd was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She enjoyed cooking, working crossword puzzles, watching golf and was an avid bird watcher. She was everyone’s “mom” and would always make sure to cook something special or prepare a sweet treat for everyone. She was also known to give anything she had to anyone in need.
