MICHELLE ROSE THOMPSON, 58, COLUMBIA

 
Michelle Rose Thompson, 58, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, April 30, 2020 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Born in Cincinnati, OH she was the daughter of the late William Crump and Marlene Fox Iames of Columbia who survives.  
 
Ms. Thompson was of the Catholic faith and an employee of Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was passionate about her job and cared so much for the residents that she volunteered in the COVID-19 unit of the nursing home.

LEE JOHN ROGERS, 55, NASHVILLE, TN

 

Lee John Rogers, 55, of Nashville, Tennessee died April 19, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was born October 8, 1964 in Jefferson County, KY.

 

Mr. Rogers worked in the Music Industry as an Audio Engineer.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Richard Parker “Chuck” Rogers and his grandparents, Coy and Lois Rogers, Golden and Flora Parker.

 

Cremation has been chosen and a private burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Adair County.

TYLER GILES, 28, COLUMBIA

 

Tyler Giles, 28, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at his home after an illness. He was born March 27, 1992, in Taylor County, KY.  
 
Tyler was a proud Alumnus of the Adair County Band and had worked in retail sales.
 
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jimmie Otterson, Sr. and Tommy Giles and an uncle, Jim Giles.

BRANDON WAYNE KINNETT, 40, COLUMBIA

 
Brandon Wayne Kinnett, 40, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 from injuries sustained in an accident.  He was born on December 11, 1979 in Somerset, KY, son of David & Linda Kinnett of Columbia, KY.
 
Mr. Kinnett was a member of Free Union Separate Baptist Church and an employee of the Kentucky State Highway Department. He was a farmer and an avid sports fan.
 
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Woody Bryant; paternal grandmother, Wilma Maxine Chapman Kinnett and a special uncle, Bill Cooley.

SHIRLEY JEAN YOUNG, 80, CAMPBELLSVILLE

 

Shirley Jean Young, 80, of Campbellsville, KY daughter of the late Jessie Wallace and Geneva (Payton) Whitehouse, passed from this life on Monday, April 27, 2020 at her home. She was born in Louisville, KY on April 2, 1940. 

 

Mrs. Young had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Beulahland Community Church. She enjoyed collecting dolls and horse trinkets, and loved to find bargains at yard sales.

Betty Morgan, 72, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, April 27th, at Fair Oaks Health Systems, Jamestown. She was born in Russell Springs, KY on March 19, 1948, a daughter of the late Eva (Rexroat) and Beckham Brown. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death a daughter, Lori Loy.

WINFRED COWAN, 75, COLUMBIA


Winfred Cowan, 75, of Columbia, KY died Monday, April 27, 2020 at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow. He was born June 9, 1944 in Adair County to the late Ira & Pearsetta Burton Cowan. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Harold & Kenneth Cowan, and one sister, Sharlene Cowan Burton.  

 

Winfred owned and operated Cowan and Son Trucking for many years and was a lifelong farmer.

DENNIS BALDOCK, 69, LIBERTY

 
Dennis Baldock, 69, of Liberty, KY passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at his residence. He was born on April 29, 1950 in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Hollis E. Baldock and Fern Drake Baldock Thomas. 
 
Dennis was a self-employed logger. He attended Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. He loved old cars, hunting, racing and working in the log woods. Dennis had an abundance of love for his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and his church family.

Betty Lou James, 79, of Columbia, KY (formerly of Campbellsville), passed from this life on Friday, April 24, 2020 in Glasgow, KY at T.J. Sampson Community Hospital after an illness. She was born on November 15, 1940 in Casey County to the late Fred and Pearl (Reece) Short.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Campbellsville and was a homemaker.

RUBY CHRISTINE SCHOLL, 91, JAMESTOWN


Ruby Christine Scholl, 91, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. She was born on Dec. 25,1928 to the late Monk and Margie Oliver. 

 
Christine was a devout Christian and faithful member of the Jamestown UMC. She was a wife, homemaker and enjoyed working as a cashier at Kay’s Bestway. She had a timeless coiffure, a resounding laugh and a love of being out and about on the Jamestown Square. Her beloved dog "Silky" was her constant companion. She will be remembered as kind and generous and lived her life with faith in God and love for her family and friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ike Scholl and a sister, Susan Oliver.

MABEL MILLER, 88, COLUMBIA

 

Mabel S. Miller, 88, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 7:57 P.M. at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was born December 28, 1931 in Adair County to the late James Frank and Myrtle Coomer Sneed. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Miller, three brothers, Duel H. Sneed, James Edwin Sneed, Lester Earl Sneed and one sister, Margaret Banks. 
 

She was employed by Russell Sportswear for over 20 years.

ZELMA MERLE STOTTS FUDGE, 88, COLUMBIA

 
Zelma Merle Stotts Fudge, 88, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia. She was born August 1st, 1931 in Adair County to the late Wilbert Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Furkins Stotts.
 
Mrs. Fudge was the widow of James Ordell Fudge, who preceded her in death on October 5th, 2009. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Daryl Gene Fudge in 1949.
 
Mrs. Fudge was a member of Red Lick Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at Circle R during its earliest days, several area sewing factories including Lyon Uniform, Osh Kosh, and two different ones in Burkesville, KY but found her calling in housekeeping at Summit Manor. Her job there was more akin to a ministry and she served in that role for 22 years until 2 broken wrists would no longer allow her to perform her job.

FAY WADE, 88, RUSSELL CO.

 
Fay Wade, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Russell County Hospital, surrounded by her sons, daughter in laws, and a host of loving and compassionate nurses at the hospital. She was born March 9, 1932 in Russell County to the late Claude & Mary Ocie Gaskin Thomas.
 
She was a homemaker, factory worker, businesswoman, a loving mother, grandmother, and, most of all, a strong Christian witness to everyone she met.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Geoffrey Wade, 1 son, David Wade and 3 brothers: C.L. Thomas, Earl Thomas, and Ronnie Thomas.

2 sons: John (Liezl) Wade and Danny (Teresa) Wade, all of Russell Springs, KY
4 grandchildren: Scott Wade, Lance Wade, Danielle White, and her special songbird, Makalyn Wade.

Walter Lee Graves, 59, of Elizabethtown, KY died Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at 10:38 P.M. at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born October 28, 1960 in Adair County, KY to the late Bobby Ray and Yvonne Garnett Graves and was also preceded in death by a brother, Joey Graves. 

 

Walter retired after 20+ years with U.S. Army, taught business at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College, employed by the Census Bureau as EO Manager and was a member of Columbia First Baptist Church, the V.F.W. and the D.A.V.

DONALD LEW GRANT, 80, GLASGOW (ADAIR CO. NATIVE)

 
Donald Lew Grant, 80, of Glasgow, KY died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his residence. Born in Adair County, KY he was the son of the late John Marion and Linnie Hardwick Grant.  
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Grant.
 
Mr. Grant was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and former owner and operator of Grants Appliance in the Temple Hill community of Barren County. He was also a former Lab Technician at Mallory’s in Glasgow. Don was a Foster Parent for 40 years and loved the children he fostered as his own. He was an avid golfer at Fox Hollow Golf Course and loved spending time with his friends there.

Charles Hadley, 79, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at his residence. Born in Adair County, he was the son of the late Joe and Susie Turner Hadley. 
 
Mr. Hadley was of the Christian faith, a Dry Waller for many years and loved building things and doing carpenter work.

Esther Mae Goodin Watson, 89, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Summit Manor Nursing Home. Born in Adair County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer & Lottie Redman Goodin and wife of the late William Watson.  
 
Mrs. Watson was of the Christian faith.
 
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Watson and a brother, Chester Goodin.

Anna Marie Helm, 87, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, KY. She was born January 23, 1933 in Glensfork, KY to the late Fred Turner & Ella Mae Grant Collins.
 
She was a member of Fairview Separate Baptist Church. Marie dedicated her life to her family and her faith in Christ. She enjoyed ministering to others through song and was an avid gospel music fan. Marie's joy in this life was her family and her role as Wife, Mother, Granny and Gran Gran.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Polarine Helm; 3 sisters: Ruth Bledsoe, Ruby Hadley, & Laura Grant; and 2 nephews

Donald Lee Thrasher, 76, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at his residence. Born in Albany, KY he was the son of the late Glen and Delean Abston Thrasher and husband of the late Brenda Faye Bruton Thrasher.
 
Mr. Thrasher attended Bearwallow United Methodist Church and was retired from the Adair County Board of Education Maintenance Department. He loved hunting, fishing and Corvette’s.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Barnes and Sue Cash.

Boyce Houk, Jr, 69, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 in Harrodsburg, KY. He was born in Greensburg, KY on July 17, 1950 a son of the late Anna Elizabeth (Judd) and Boyce Houk.
 
Boyce served in the U.S. Army and was a retired Minister.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Houk and a sister, Darlene Jeffries.

Herman was an auto body repairman.

Melissa Brockman, 46, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, April 19, 2020 at her residence. She was born August 15, 1973, in New Albany, Indiana and served two tours in Iraq in the U.S. Army.

James Edward “Jim” Furkins, 78, of Smiths Grove, KY died Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the Bowling Green Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green, KY.  Born in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Luster Ray and Hazel Lacy Furkins.
 
Jim was a member of the Samson St. Church of God in Glasgow, KY.

ELMA JEAN WILSON STILES, 93, TAYLOR CO. (ADAIR CO. NATIVE)


Elma Jean Wilson Stiles, 93, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Barm William Perkins and Ellen Gumm Perkins was born January 11, 1927 in Adair County, KY. She died at 4:00 P.M., Monday, April 13, 2020 in Campbellsville. 


She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle.


Elma was a former waitress and jail matron.


She united in marriage to Jim Wilson January 20, 1962. He preceded her in death September 29, 2003. She later married Jesse W. Stiles who preceded her in death January 24, 2014.


Elma enjoyed traveling which she was privileged to do when her husband, Jim was in the military. Her favorite past time was playing cards; which she often did at the Senior Citizen’s Center. She was a people person who never met a stranger.


She is survived by several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Wesley Perkins, Sherman Perkins, Joseph Perkins, Magdalene Benningfield, and Blanche Irene Perkins.

Mary (Grider) Bryant, 93, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 11:05 a.m. at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was born October 28, 1926 in Adair County to the late Fred and Zemmar Smiley Grider. 

 

Mary was the widow of Tommie Bryant. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Bryant McLean and a brother, Marvin T. Grider. 

 

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Mary was well known for being a kind and compassionate person, devoted Bible reader, immaculate cook and beloved friend to all who knew her.

Phillip Dale Combest, 78, of Russell Springs, KY died Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 26, 1941 in Russell County to the late Phillip & Ruth Bledsoe Combest.
 
He managed an insurance services and inspection firm for 25 years before starting his own regional firm, Philco Reports, in 1986, which he owned and operated for 15 years in Cincinnati until his retirement and return to Russell Springs to live.

Eleanor was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, a long-time Beautician and worked at Jamestown Marina for several years.

 

She was married to William Mark Hanson who preceded her in death. She later married Russell Sieg who also preceded her in death.

Ricky Lynn Burris, 61, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, April 12, 2020 at his residence. Born in Green County, KY, he was the son of the late Raymond and Louetta Kemp Burris.
 
Mr. Burris attended the Egypt Christian Church and was a former Deputy Jailer for the Adair County Regional Jail.  He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.

Kathy Ann Hare, 68, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her residence.  Born in Knifley, KY she was the daughter of the late Ray Miller and Margaret Goodin Miller of Leesburg, VA who survives. 
 
Ms. Hare was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College in 1992 and retired from the State of Kentucky.  She was a Social Worker in Casey County before retiring. She was very passionate about Alcoholics Anonymous and drug court in both Adair and Casey County.

JACKIE BRENDEL KEAN, 59, COLUMBIA

 
Jacquelyn “Jackie” Marie Brendel-Kean, 59, Columbia, KY, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 10, 2020. She was born August 28, 1960 in Buffalo, New York to the late John and Beverley (Cryer) Brendel. 
 
She graduated from Amherst Central High School in Snyder, NY (1978) and got her nursing degree from the University of New York at Buffalo (1982).  She went on to get her Master’s Degree from the University of South Florida (1991) and worked as a Nurse Practitioner for 29 years. On October 17, 1998, she married John William Kean. They raised one son together, John William Stubbs.  Jackie had a passion for helping others. She also loved to spend time with her family and pets. She was a caring and compassionate person who would help anyone in need.  She was known for her willingness to help others, her infectious smile, and her kind, gentle and caring soul.  Jackie was also a breast cancer survivor.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Brendel.

Donnie Hughes, 68, of Louisville, KY died Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was born March 20, 1952 in Adair County to the late Chester and Ruth Moore Hughes.  
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Leslie, Chester Jr., Kenny & Jimmy Hughes. 
 
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Santa Fee Baptist Church, was employed at Gateway Press, Inc. for many years but had to retire early because of health reasons.  He loved his Cardinals “Go Cards”

Audrey Maxine Carney, 87, of Columbia, KY died Friday, April 10, 2020 at her residence.  Born in Russell Springs, KY she was the daughter of the late Joe and Della Elmore Polston and wife of the late Robert J. Carney Sr.
 
She was also preceded in death by her previous husbands: Junior Brown and Bill Ritter; 1 son, James Warren Brown, Sr and several brothers and sisters.

He was an automobile salesman.

CHARLES THURMAN GOODIN, 81, COLUMBUS, IN (ADAIR CO. NATIVE)

 
Charles Thurman Goodin, 81, of Columbus, Indiana died at 3:20 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born January 9, 1939 in Kentucky, the son of Lawrence and Exuria Goodin. 
 
Charles was an Army veteran. He pastored the Upper Room Church and retired from Cummins Engine Company. He loved gardening and was a very proud grandpa to all of his grandchildren 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leemon Goodin.

JOYCE ROGERS SCOBEE, 75, GUSTON, KY (ADAIR CO. NATIVE)

 
Joyce Rodgers Scobee, 75, of Guston, KY passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.  
 
Mrs. Scobee was a longtime member of Hill Grove Baptist Church, where she was also very active in the Silver Bells Widow Group.  She had many interests, but absolutely loved to sew and quilt.
 
Mrs. Scobee was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Duewy Dean Scobee; two sisters, Mayme Green and Fern Kerr; and four brothers, Charlie, Sim, Sam and Sonny Rodgers.

Larry Allen Cundiff, 65, son of the late Morris and Avon (Turner) Cundiff, was born August 13, 1954 in Adair County, KY and departed this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in Campbellsville at his home. 
 
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church where he served as the music director. He loved his church, but most of all, he loved the Lord and and shared his passion for music. He was a registered Piano Technician and was the owner of Cundiff and Sons Piano in Campbellsville. He loved hunting, fishing and playing golf and singing in his family quartet known as the Cundiff's.

Sarah Elizabeth Roy, 95, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the Barren County Nursing and Rehab Center in Glasgow, KY.  Born in Adair County, she was the daughter of the late James Weaver and Lillie Tucker Roy.
 
Ms. Roy was member of the Cane Valley Christian Church and attended the Columbia Baptist Church. She was a caregiver for many in the area and loved gardening and quilting.
