Duane Carter Wilson, 86, Dunnville, KY

Duane Carter Wilson, 86, of Dunnville, KY went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 15, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 4, 1938 in Ottawa to Edward and Violet Wilson.

Duane grew up working hard for his family. After graduating from Ottawa High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army beginning a life-long legacy of service, integrity, and hard work. Following his military service, Duane returned home to Ottawa and began his career driving trucks, first with Pepsi-Cola. He later became an independent semi-truck driver, a role he embraced for many years. Duane also owned and operated Ottawa Spring Corp where he built many relationships through his dedication and craftsmanship.

In his earlier years, Duane’s happiest moments were spent out doors and surrounded by his family. He loved his fishing trips to Canada with family and friends; singing in church, and enjoying fun outings such as whiffle ball games, roller skating, and bowling. He sang in a quartet, and they traveled all around Illinois singing for the Lord. Duane loved sharing music with others, taking his family once a month to nursing homes to brighten the resident’s day. He treasured every moment spent listening to his children sing in these family concerts. Duane had a generous and compassionate heart for children, as he served as a foster father of many children. He opened his home giving them a safe and loving place to stay. After moving to Kentucky in 1995, he retired to enjoy the lake, boating, fishing, traveling, and mission work. He loved to road trip, always back roads, discovering our beautiful USA that he loved so much. Duane adored watching his grandchildren grow up in Kentucky on his little farm.

A scripture close to Duane’s heart was Psalm 23. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” We will miss him dearly, but we find peace knowing he is finally at rest. His love, his strength, and his bold faith will live on in all of us.

Willard David "Pop" Parnell, 98, Edmonton, KY (Adair County Native)

Willard David “Pop” Parnell, 98, of Edmonton, KY (a native of Adair County, KY) passed from this earthly world to be with his bride on November 19, 2025. A fiery, freckled-faced redhead brimming with curiosity, he began his life’s journey as Willard David Parnell on April Fools’ Day 1927—the second child of Mallie and Ransom Parnell—born on (as he often said) Long Creek in Adair County, KY.

God, along with his bride of 73 years, Norma Harper Parnell, and their son Lanny, welcomed him home, as did his parents, sister Milladean Keltner, and brothers Paul and Bobby. He embodied the motto “God, Country, Family,” and his life was a testament to those values. He often said that when he passed, “I don’t want people to say I died; I want them to say I went Home.” As a child, his love for the outdoors was born in and along Long Creek—fishing, hunting, and trapping at every opportunity.

His relationship with God also began early as a member of Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. He never wavered from his faith. For the past 75 years, he was an active member of Edmonton Methodist Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School with Norma, and serving in numerous roles. Pop loved his church and his church family. He understood its importance in his life—almost as much as fishing.

At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. His tank battalion was later converted to the 8th Constabulary, a policing unit stationed near the Czech border until his discharge. It is believed that Pop was the last WWII veteran in Metcalfe County, KY.

Three years after his return, his life companion came into his life. After a very brief courtship, he and Norma were married on March 6, 1950. Four years later came Lanny, followed by Steve, then Cindy. Their marriage—built on love, devotion, and commitment—was truly a model to behold.

After several years in Indiana and Illinois, Pop and Norma returned to Edmonton in 1960 and opened Parnell’s Trading Center, a thriving, community-based country store that was as much museum as it was market—filled with antiques, clothing, auto parts, hand-cut bologna sandwiches, and everything in between.

Pop loved a challenge. Musky fishing became one—and he not only caught a Kentucky state record, and he broke his own record shortly thereafter. His next challenge was becoming a self-taught taxidermist… and a very good one.

Music was also a centerpiece of his life. Mostly self-taught, he played many instruments. He and Mom were regulars on the square-dancing circuit in the 1970s. He frequently played at church and was a regular at the Summer Shade Pickers on Friday nights. He always had a harmonica on his hip and was never shy to perform—whether in the dentist’s chair, a restaurant, the nursing home, or the hospital. It never took much for him to start a toe-tapping tune.

His love for family and friends was constant. “Stranger” quickly became “friend” as his curiosity and interest in people continued throughout his life. In recent years, caregivers provided comfort and support for his daily needs. They arrived as strangers and soon became family. The family is eternally grateful for the care they provided.

Pop had an incredible run. His goal of reaching 100 fell just a few months short, but those 98 years were filled with love, family, friendship, and, most importantly, faith. We will miss that never-ending smile, his touch, his patriotism, his wisdom, and his strong Christian faith. He’s already playing a tune with God, rest in peace Pop.

Bro. David Coffey, 76, Russell Springs, KY

David Coffey, 76, of Russell Springs, KY passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital. He was born on May 18, 1949 in Kenton County, KY.

He came home to Russell County in 1951 when he was adopted by the late Hollist and Aleane Coffey. David was a graduate of Russell County High School, Campbellsville College, and Western Kentucky University. He was a retired teacher from the Russell County Board of Education, teaching at Union Chapel Elementary, Russell Springs Elementary and Russell County High School. He enjoyed farming and coaching multiple sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and softball.

However, his true calling in life was service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Bro. David was ordained as a minister in the South Kentucky Association of Separate Baptists in 1978. He pastored several churches in Russell, Casey, Pulaski, and Adair Counties. His last 28 years of ministry were spent at New Hope Separate Baptist Church in Columbia, before retiring in 2022 due to health issues. David was the truest definition of a pastor. He tirelessly led and cared for the members of his congregation and beyond, driving countless miles to visit the sick, be present for surgeries, births, deaths, funerals, or just to stop and say hello. David made weekly rounds at three nursing homes and regularly visited hospitals all over the state. He leaves a legacy with this dedication and will always be remembered as a good and faithful servant.

10 grandchildren: Nathaniel and Megan Coffey; Jadon, Ella, and Cora Coffey; and Piper, Lila, Levi, Easton, and Declan McReynolds

David was proud of his family and loved them dearly. He always encouraged his children and grandchildren in everything they did, placing a great emphasis on education, but above all the importance of faith in Jesus.

Hattie Lee Ramsey, 83, Columbia, KY

Hattie Lee Ramsey, 83, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the TJ Health Columbia Emergency Room. She was born August 27, 1942 in Adair County to the late Delmar LaRue and Ruby England Jessie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Ramsey and her brother, D.L. Jessie, Jr.

She was a member of Charity Baptist Church.

Hattie Lee also known as “Granny Pete” had a gift for making people feel cared for and she expressed that love most naturally through food.  Her kitchen was alive, especially at Christmas with homemade candy, warm pies and cheesecakes that she had perfected over the years.  Feeding others wasn’t just something she did—it was one of her greatest joys.

Her green thumb was every bit as remarkable as her baking. She found peace in her garden, tending to her flowers with patience and devotion.  Every bloom seemed to flourish under her care. Above all, Hattie will be remembered for her kindness. Her love reached far beyond her home—touching friends, neighbors and anyone fortunate enough to know her.

Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly. Her spirit lives on in the recipes she taught us, the gardens she inspired and the faith and love she poured into her family.  Her memory will continue to bloom in every kitchen warm with baking and every garden filled with flowers.

George Andrew Critz, 82, Columbia, KY

George Andrew Critz, 82, of Columbia, KY passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Tri-Star Centennial Hospital, with his children at his side. He was born on November 13, 1942 in Wadsworth, OH, to the late John Paul and Velma Ruth Andrews Critz.

In 1952, his family moved to Bellbrook, OH where he attended Bellbrook Sugarcreek Schools. On his first day of school there, he was introduced by the teacher to his new school class, of which his future wife was a member. He and Doris’ family lived about a quarter mile apart on Ferry Road, and during the summer, they, their siblings, cousins, and neighbors would play neighborhood baseball games.

He loved all sports but especially loved basketball. In 1960 he graduated from Bellbrook High School as the all-time leading scorer, a record which he still holds today. From 1960-1964 he played for Adolph Rupp on the University of Kentucky basketball team. He spent the first year of his teaching/coaching career at Scott County Middle School. He then went to Owen County, teaching and coaching there for two years. After that, he served the rest of his career in the Adair County Schools, teaching/coaching (in his signature green suit), then serving as the principal of the Adair County High School and ending his career working at the Central Office.

While he retired from education, he continued farming.  During his younger years, he raised tobacco. He also loved keeping his fields looking nice and worked hard to keep the farm going. Mr. Critz had a special interest in old cars and, after retirement, loved going to local car shows. He enjoyed collecting old Native American artifacts and old wooden clocks. The last few years, he delighted in attending Midnight Madness as a guest of the UK Men’s basketball program.

More than anything, however, he adored his family. Routinely he talked to siblings, other family, and friends while watching UK games. He loved getting group photos, going on family vacations and to reunions, and sending out the family Christmas card. No one was happier than he was when a little grandchild would sit on his lap and when the big ones would come to visit. Band competitions, art shows, academic team meets, sporting events, award evenings, dance, and gymnastic recitals (some 4+ hours long!), cheer events, and concerts/music programs…he supported his children and grandchildren by attending them all!  He was a beloved Dad and superb Papa to all his grandchildren.

Mr. Critz was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church, where he loved his men’s Sunday School Class and fellow church members. He was blessed to have the support of friends, neighbors, and his community. He will be so dearly missed.

After graduating from Russell County High School, Glenda married Osbin Guy Leveridge of Jamestown. Shortly thereafter, Glenda became a military wife when her husband was drafted into the U.S. Army.
