Maurine Hughes, 98, of Glensfork, KY passed away on February 26, 2022 due to natural causes at her daughters residence in Pendleton, IN. She was born on May 16, 1923 to the late W. G. Andrew and Minnie Turner Andrew.
Maurine was born and raised in Glensfork, KY - her favorite place in the world, where she met/married the love of her life and also raised her children. She married her husband, Adolph Hughes on August 16, 1941. Maurine was a southern belle; she enjoyed the simple things in life - her family, friends, church, and the countryside. She especially loved calling her daughter every evening to discuss the day's events and their next jewelry purchase. She was a devout Christian and shared her faith with everyone she met and attended the Glensfork Church of the Nazarene. Maurine always made her family a priority and had a special relationship with each of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Hughes and a son, James E. Hughes “Bud”.

Ruby Lillian Corbin Beaty, 89, of Columbia, KY died Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green, KY. She was born on April 6, 1932 to the late Aaron Corbin and Ina Stotts Corbin Murphy.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clay Beaty; step-father, Elzie Murphy; 2 children: Judith Reinig and Steven Beaty; her son-in-law. Donald Keith; and a half-brother, Jadell Murphy.

Nancy Vincent Hughes, 83, passed away February 24, 2022 after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by people who loved her. She was born in Cumberland, KY on January 31, 1939 to the late Fred and Sally Thurman Vincent.
Nancy attended Adair High School and Bellarmine University. She moved to Louisville where she remained the rest of her life. She retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education.
Nancy was a spirited, determined woman who was possibly ahead of her time. She could sing and dance. She was a beautiful artist and enjoyed gardening. Nancy was unpredictable and unafraid. She changed her own oil and worked on her own car. This did not always prove to be a good idea. The simple pleasure of taking long walks brought her joy. Never shy to stand up for her beliefs, she was an advocate for the underdog. She volunteered at Maryhurst for many years. Nancy loved animals and was seemingly incapable of turning away cats. Some of her happiest times were spent with dear friends from her neighborhood and Southeast Christian Church. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren.

Glenda Kay Bryant, 79, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at her home. She was born in Columbia, KY on August 22, 1942, daughter of the late Leonard and Nellie Roberts Bryant.
Glenda was valedictorian of Adair County High School’s graduating class her Senior year. She was secretary for Russell Sportswear, then at at Fruit of the Loom until her retirement. Glenda was a loving, giving person. To say her grandchildren were her world would be an understatement. She left a good impression on everyone she met. Glenda enjoyed being with family and loved working with her flowers.

Ruthie worked many years as a seamstress for Russell Sportswear and Fruit of the Loom. She loved her time working as a Nurse’s Aide at Russell County Hospital and kept in touch with many she had met in her time there. Ruthie was a great hostess; If you came to her home, she would always have food to offer. She loved cooking and baking, gardening and canning. Ruthie loved making quilt tops and working with her flowers. Ruthie and her husband, William, were members of New Friendship Baptist Church.

Ricky Lee Johnson, 60, of Russell Springs, KY passed away peacefully on February 16, 2022 at his home, with his loving wife of 34 years by his side. Born May 17, 1961 in Russell Springs, he was the son of Nova Wright Johnson and the late Arlo Johnson.
Besides his father, Ricky was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Johnson and one sister, Peggy Johnson Stratton.
Ricky was a member of Welfare Church. He loved being outdoors, especially going hunting and fishing. He loved his grandbabies. Ricky was always staying busy; you couldn’t keep up with him. Whatever he did, Ricky gave his all.

Alta Lorine Pierce, 85, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 2, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee, a daughter of the late James Meeks and Ophelia Horton Meeks Grider.
She married Finis Pierce in 1951. There are 10 children born to their union. After caring for her own children and family, Lorine became a Certified Nursing Assistant and cared for the elderly. Lorine loved to cook; she was known to make a feast from few ingredients. Her biscuits and red-eye gravy couldn’t be beat. She was an animal lover, especially horses, dogs and birds.For many years she kept every kind of birdhouse and would raise chickens, ducks and geese from eggs. Lorine attended The Solid Rock Church in Middletown. She loved Jesus with all her heart. Her Homegoing leaves a sadness for her family in her loss, but they have comfort in knowing where she is now.

Eula Mae Bernard, 97, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Monday evening, February 7, 2022 at her home with her family at her side. Born on March 22, 1924 in Russell County, KY, she was the youngest of 6 children born to Liston Lawless and Ada Pearl Antle Helm.
Eula Mae was a homemaker and a member of Russell Springs Christian Church. For many years, Eula Mae worked alongside her husband, Kenneth, at Bernard Funeral Home, which they founded in April 1954. Throughout the years, they served a countless number of families during their most difficult times. Eula Mae was most often seen sitting on the back pew of the chapel greeting the community during visitations and funerals. When she wasn’t at the funeral home, Eula Mae enjoyed walking and baking a variety of pies, cakes, and candies that she would give away to her friends and family. She will be deeply missed by her family and her community.

Mark McQueary, 57, of Windsor, KY, formerly of Russell Springs, KY passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Casey County Hospital in Liberty. Born on November 22, 1964 in Columbia, KY, a son of Royce McQueary and the late Imogene Abrell McQueary.
Mark was a truck driver for many years. He loved being behind the wheel and it became his passion in life. When he became unable to drive, he still found joy in talking about it to those around him.

Dr. Jean M.E.G. Oostens, 89, of Columbia, KY died Friday, February 4, 2022 at 4:40 A.M. at the TJ Health Columbia Emergency Room. Dr. Oostens was born in Ixelles, Brussels, Belgium, on November 14, 1932 to the late Eugene and Marie Polet Oostens.
He studied at the University of Louvain (Belgium), where he received Masters degrees in electrical engineering and physics. He later earned a Doctorate in sciences from the University of Paris (France) for his work on Alpha-Proton Scattering using Saturne. Oostens’ love for research and teaching led him to many laboratories and research universities over a career spanning 4 decades, including Saclay (France), Brookhaven National Laboratory (New York), Los Alamos (New Mexico), Upsala College (New Jersey), University of California at Los Angeles, Illinois Institute of Technology, Cincinnati University, Lindsey Wilson College, and finally Campbellsville University. His research centered on nuclear particles and physics, subjects for which he could describe in infinitesimal detail. In retirement, he remained active in central Kentucky working with science teachers in the public schools, teaching fundamentals of physics and providing experiments for young students.
Multilingual, he was fluent in French and English, and read Dutch, German, Italian, and Latin. An enthusiastic self-starter, always with a smile, he easily made friends with everyone he met. One of his joys was to collect old radios, of which he maintained close to 50, some dating back to radio’s earliest days.
Oostens was married to the former Yolande Wittamer for 43 years. She predeceased him in 2017. The couple had no children.

Betty L. Ballenger, 79, of Jamestown, KY passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at Russell County Hospital. She was born in Jamestown on February 4, 1943, a daughter of the late Lizzie Rachel (Campbell) Murphy and Arvil Dixon.

Glendo Grider, Sr., 84, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Russell County Hospital. He was born in Adair County’s White Oak Community on May 11, 1937, a son of the late Hollis and Lavona McGowan Grider.
Glenda gave most of his adult life to the service of his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, where he earned 3 Bronze Service Stars and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Glendo was sent around the world with the Air Force as Military Police. He had been stationed at Grissom Air Force Base in Indiana, Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan and Mount Laguna Air Force Base in California. He was proud of his many decorated achievements with the Air Force and retired from the military as a Master Sergeant.
Glendo was “one of a kind”. His big booming voice and “larger than life” personality made an impression on all who knew him. Glendo loved being outdoors, loved to eat and enjoyed UK basketball. He loved his family, his children and his grandchildren.

Charles Owens, 93, of Mt. Orab, Ohio, formerly of Ingle, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at his home. He was born on June 9, 1928 in Ingle, Kentucky, son of the late Everett Thedore and Leoine Frances Wilson Owens.
He worked with his father on the family farm until he enlisted in the military. He served his country as a U.S. Army Corporal in the Korean War. After serving, he went to work for the Mead Corporation as a dye press operator where he gave over 28 years of dedicated service. Charles was a member of the N.R.A. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, carpentry, and woodworking. Charles loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myrtie Ruth Abbott Parsley, 87, of Campbellsville, KY died Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at her residence in Campbellsville, KY. She was born on June 3, 1934 in Monticello, KY to the late Willie and Vie Ann Chriswell Abbott.
Mrs. Parsley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Campbellsville and a retired art teacher at Green County High School. After retiring, she taught art at Campbellsville University College. She was more than a teacher to those who she taught; She considered her students family and stayed in contact with them up to the time of her death.

Anna Ray, 63, of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow, KY. She was born in Albany, KY, on February 21, 1958, a daughter of the late Lena (Brumley) and Joe Bell.
