George “Bud” Gilpin, 92, formerly of Adair County, KY died August, 28, 2021 in Scottsburg, IN. He was the son of the late Arthur Bryant Gilpin and Mattie Mae Mann Gilpin. 
 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Hayden Gilpin and Jimmy Gilpin and 2 sisters: Ethel Long and Clarice Ashby.

Dicy Coffey, 99, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown, KY. Born on October 19, 1921 in Russell County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Jerome and Idona Johnson Roy. 
 
Dicy was a homemaker, farmer, and caretaker. She was also a member of Union Baptist Church. 
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed T. Coffey, who passed away on August 21, 1998 and by two daughters: Tena and Meredith Coffey. Dicy was the last survivor of 8 brothers & 3 sisters.

MARIE KELLY GEORGE, 83, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 
Marie Kelly George, 83, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Russell County Hospital.  Born on September 4, 1937, in Adair County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Susie Keith Kelly.  
 
Marie was a homemaker who loved to grow a big garden. She enjoyed freezing and canning all of the vegetables her garden produced. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
 
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ben George, who passed away on August 18, 2008; three brothers, Earle Kelly, Willie Ray Kelly, and Elroy Kelly; and a sister, Lucille Cape.

Patricia Jean Hodge, 69, of Columbia, KY, died Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home. She was born July 24, 1952 to the late Joe Bob and Ruby Factor Hunter.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Louise Hunter Bray, Bobbie Pegg and Joyce Kelley.

Charles Roy Grider, 84, of Jamestown, KY passed away Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Jamestown, KY on June 19, 1937, a son of the late Eunice (Dunbar) and Vernon Cyrus Grider. 

He was a retired Project Manager at Wolf Creek and Laurel Dams.

KENNETH FRED ROYSE, 77, BOWLING GREEN, KY (COLUMBIA, KY NATIVE)

 

Kenneth Fred Royse, 77, passed into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. He was a son of the late Amly and Lena Royse.

 

Mr. Royse spent his life as a servant leader. He was a veteran of the US Army. He chose a career in social work, working as the regional manager for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. He volunteered his time to the United Way, serving as president. In retirement, he found fulfillment volunteering for Living Waters for the World, installing water purification systems, and educating communities in rural Belize about clean water. He also loved nature and the outdoors, including fishing, canoeing, & camping. Church and family were a central part of Mr. Royse’s life. He served the Lord as an elder at the Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green.

1 son: Brian Royse & wife Mary of Lexington, KY

1 daughter: Amy Kern & husband Ed of Wyomissing, PA

3 grandsons: Riley, Spencer, and Matthew

A small private ceremony will be held at the Royse Family Cemetery in Columbia, KY on Sunday, August 29, 2021 with Dr. Matthew Covington officiating.

ARGLE COFFEE MEEKS, 85,WINDSOR, KY

 

Argle Coffee Meeks, 85, of Windsor, KY passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Casey County Hospital. He was born January 13, 1936 in Liberty, KY, the son of the late Gloid & Alice Roberts Meeks.

 

Argle was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who enjoyed his time with family as well as farming and gardening and drove a school bus for 30 years in the Casey County School System. Argle was a long-time fiddle player and enjoyed playing bluegrass and gospel music with his friends and served as fiddler for many well-known groups including Carl Story and the Rambling Mountaineers and Harold Austin and the First National Bluegrass. Argle attended Ono Community Church where he re-dedicated his life to the Lord. 

 

Besides his parents, Argle was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Delmer (Kathleen) Meeks and Chester (Lucy) Meeks, Marie (Elmer) Bernard, Opal (Elsie) Roy, Gladys (Elbert) Emerson, and Beatrice Meeks (who passed away as a child).

CAROLYN MARCUM MORRIS, 71, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 
Carolyn Marcum Morris, 71, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late James "Bill" Wesley Murphy and Elle Frances (Cull) Murphy, was born in Taylor County on April 27, 1950 and departed this life peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Campbellsville, KY.
 
She professed her faith in Christ. Carolyn was a member of the American Legion of Campbellsville. She was a very loving mother and grandmother, and showed great care and compassion to all who knew her. She had a passion for dancing and loved watching country music videos. Carolyn built starters at Ingersoll Rand in Campbellsville and retired after many years of employment.
 
She united in marriage to James "Jimmy" Morris, who precedes her in death on October 13th, 2018.

Phillip Lendil Wilson, 78, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, November 25, 1942 in Russell Springs, KY, the son of the late Herbert & Elva Meece Wilson.

 

Phillip attended Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired diesel mechanic. He was an avid sportsman, a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked for Key GMC in Cincinnati. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.


Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Wilson.

SHIRLEY K. HOPPER, 79, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY


Shirley K. Hopper, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at OSU Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was 79 years of age. Born on March 8, 1942 in Russell County, KY, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Laura Grace Bolin Kerr.
 

Shirley was a homemaker and a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church, which she loved. She was also a life-long learner, avid reader, and held a real-estate license. Shirley loved babies and children, and was the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. She loved to travel and had explored the world with her daughter, Vicki. She also enjoyed lake vacations with the whole family. Shirley will be remembered as a sweet lady, who always had a smile and was a true servant to people.

Funeral services will be held privately for family at 1:00pmCT on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Bernard Funeral Home with her son-in-law, Dr. John Francis officiating.
 

Burial will follow in Russell Springs City Cemetery. 
 

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pmCT on Saturday, August 28, 2021 and from 8:00 A.M. until service time on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Bernard Funeral Home.

RAYMOND "PETE" CURRY, 93, COLUMBIA, KY

 
Raymond E. “Pete” Curry, 93, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at McKendree Village Nursing Home in Hermitage, TN.  He was born in Adair County, KY on June 17, 1928 to the late Avert and Fannie Corbin Curry.  
 
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doretta Streeval Curry; a son-in-law, Danny Acey; and 2 brothers: Gilbert and Marshall Curry.
 
Mr. Curry was a member of the Bearwallow United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean War.  Mr. Curry received the Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal for his bravery and time served during the Korean War.

Isaac Earl Redmon, 86, of Shepherdsville, KY passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 with his family by his side.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Almeda Stargel Redmon and his parents, Curtis & Norma Redmon.
 
Earl was a Baptist by faith, and a member at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and retired as a truck driver for the Courier Journal, where he worked over 30 years. Earl was a member of the Masonic Lewis Lodge #191 and is a Past Grand Master. He was an avid University of Kentucky and Cincinnati Reds fan. Earl enjoyed fishing and took great pride in tending to his garden.

Coy England, 78, of Edmonton, KY died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 and his wife Geneva Dickson England, 75, of Edmonton, KY died Monday, August 23, 2021 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, KY. Coy was born on February 1, 1943 in Barren County to the late Roy and Cecil Moore England and Geneva was born on December 1, 1945 in Barren County to the late Carl and Lucille Sexton Dickson.  
 
Coy & Geneva were members of Penicks Chapel United Baptist Church. They were Christian inspirations to all who knew them and their faith was strong for all to see. They enjoyed attending church and spending time with their family and friends, and especially their dog “Huleo”.
 
In addition to their parents they were preceded in death by his uncle Aim England and her brother Cecil Dickson.

ELTON TABOR, 91, CHICAGO IL (FORMERLY OF FAIRPLAY, KY)


Elton Tabor, 91, of Chicago, Illinois (formerly of Fairplay, KY), died Monday, August 23, 2021. He was born to the late William and Mary Ella Tabor on January 5, 1930 in Fairplay.


He joined the Army in 1951 and was stationed in Korea. He achieved the rank of Corporal, and returned home in 1953. He worked as a machinist for Rockwell Standard, then Young, Spring, and Wire and later owned his own construction company.


He married Cleda Coomer in 1956, and they divorced in 1982.

Elouise Bradshaw, 76, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Russell County Hospital. Born May 4, 1945, Elouise was the daughter of the late Arnold and Susie Morgan Antle.  
 
Along with her parents, Elouise was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin, who passed away on March 17, 2013.
 
Elouise worked as a nurse’s aide for Lifeline Home Health for many years. She loved being outdoors and traveling. She cherished the time spent with her family.

Robert “Bob” Hadley, 78, of Princeton, IN passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City, IN. He was born in Columbia, KY on November 25, 1942 to Edd Logan & Bessie Dale (Helm) Hadley. 
 
Bob was the owner operator of Hadley Excavating in Princeton. He had lived in Gibson County most of his life. He enjoyed working, spending time with his grandchildren and playing with his dogs.
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Rose Hadley in 2015 and 5 siblings: Lonnie, Juanita, Betty, Bryan and Ralph.

GARY DEAN BLAKEY, 70, ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (FORMERLY OF RUSSELL COUNTY, KY)

 

Gary Dean Blakey, 70, of Elizabethtown, KY passed from this life to go be with Jesus on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Baptist Health - Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY. He was born on December 19, 1950 to the late Rev. Luther Garvin “L.G.” and Reba Stearns Blakey.  

 

Gary was a retired school teacher and basketball coach in the Hardin County School System for 27 years. He was involved in the Emmaus, Gideons and his church. He was also a photographer and videographer. After retiring in 2000, Gary and his wife, Mary, moved back to Russell County where he served as coach driver for the Blakey Quartet. He became a building contractor, building several houses and a church family life center. About a year ago, they relocated back to Elizabethtown.

Buford Burton, 83, of Edinburgh, Indiana passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at his residence. He was born March 2, 1938 on Burton Ridge in Adair County, KY, the son of the late Wesley and Burt (Dile) Burton. 
 
Buford attended Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church. He retired from Atterbury Job Corp where he worked in the maintenance department and later worked for Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home. He enjoyed traveling out west.

David Wooldridge, 60, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Russell County Hospital. Born on February 15, 1961 in Westerville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Eulis Glen and Naomi Shearer Wooldridge.  

 

David enjoyed life and didn’t let his physical restrictions keep him from doing things he loved; he graduated high school, drove a car and worked for Russell County Dispatch for a while. David loved going to church at Jamestown Church of the Nazarene and talking on the phone. He was a fan of UK Wildcats basketball and enjoyed calling bingo numbers at Fair Oaks Nursing Facility. David loved working crossword puzzles, painting and coloring.

JOHN JULIEN HAGGARD, 71, JAMESTOWN, KY (OHIO NATIVE)


John Julien Haggard, 71, passed from this life suddenly on his houseboat on his beloved Lake Cumberland on Monday, August 16, 2021. He was born in West Lafayette, IN on March 19, 1950, a son of the late Rachel (Gossard) and John Marcus Haggard. 

 

John thought every day on the lake was a good one. John's children would tell you their father was a relentless purveyor of apple cider vinegar and chocolate ice cream for your health - he was also known as a prolific texter.

 

The oldest of 6 children growing up in rural Indiana, John met his wife of 50 years, Sharon, on Lake Harmony, Ohio where he developed a life long love of water sports, especially barefoot skiing, before settling in Bluffton, Ohio to raise his family. He never retired from his work as an agricultural consultant where a non-conventional approach to soil health was a life-long passion.
 

Other interests including motorcycling and motorhomes occupied much of his time in later years but spending time with family was always priority number 1. 
 

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tim Haggard.

Jimmie Brummett, 78, of Glens Fork, KY died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 9:17 P.M. at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 17, 1943 in Adair County, KY to the late Sam and Ester Grant Brummett.

Sam Bingham Holmes, 94, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.  He was born on May 27, 1927 in Columbia, KY to the late Leslie and Clarice Goodin Holmes.  He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Allene McKinney Holmes.
 
Mr. Holmes was a member of the New Life for the Nations Church, a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Air Force and a 25 year member of the Kiwanis Club in Jeffersonville, IN. Sam enjoyed riding across the country on his motorcycle with his wife before her death in 2013. He also enjoyed fishing and helping others in need.

Kenneth Sinclair, 84, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, August 15, 2021 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.  He was born in Adair County on October 8, 1936 to the late Ray and Vertie Bryant Sinclair. 

 

He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Marvin Sinclair.

 

Mr. Sinclair was the former owner and operator of Sinclair’s Garage and enjoyed old cars and spending time with family and friends.

James Elbert Kimbler, 87, of Columbia, KY died Friday, August 13, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Adair County on February 2, 1934 to the late Lucian and Mary Kathleen Medaris Kimbler.

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret McIntyre; a son, James “Jimmy” Kimbler; and 6 siblings: Joe, Othey, Tommy, Robert and George Kimbler and Alene Kelsay.

 

Mr. Kimbler was a member of the Cane Valley Christian Church and a farmer in the Cane Valley community of Adair County.

LOUISE WALKER GOWEN, 90, BOWLING GREEN KY (COLUMBIA NATIVE)

 

Louise Walker Gowen, 90, of Bowling Green, KY passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2021 at 9:58. The Adair County native was the daughter of the late Howard Walker Sr. and Mamie Wilson Walker.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Cecil Gowen and a sister to the late Howard Walker (Jr) and Charles Walker of Sparksville. 
 

Mrs. Gowen was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a teacher in the Adair County School System and taught at Keith’s Chapel, Red Lick, Rowe Town, Breeding and Sparksville Grade Center.  Mrs. Gowen retired in 1994 from public service.  She always had a love of learning and wanted all to learn to better themselves.

 

Mrs. Gowen is one of the last founding members of Sparksville Baptist Church which she was a member until her passing.  She served in the church in a variety of positions throughout the years. She always had a love for the community and especially her church.

Rufus Johnson, 74, formerly of Adair County, KY died August 4, 2021 in San Rafael, California. He was born June 3, 1947 in Campbellsville, KY to the late Taylor Claude and Mary Martha Hunter Johnson. 
 

Rufus attended Durham High School in Campbellsville, was baptized in the Campbellsville First Baptist Church by Rev. Walter Johnson and was known for his ability to travel across the United States.

Albert Louis Maulden, 64, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at T.J. Health Columbia. He was born in Paxton, IL on July 3, 1957 to the late James and Dorothy Vandenbosh Maulden. 

 

Mr. Maulden was of the Christian faith and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

KRISTINA LOUISE SULT, 50, ADAIR COUNTY, KY

 

Kristina Louise Sult, 50, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 9, 2021 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Tina was born on November 24, 1971 to Peter Everett Wright and Gloria Jean Hunsaker Wright in Hammond, Indiana.
 

She received her degree in human services and counseling from Lindsey Wilson College as another step in her dedication to serving others in her community.

 

She was joined in union with Jeremy Sult in 1993 and gave birth to two children whom she loved fiercely. 

 

Tina was preceded in death by her grandparents: Gene and Gloria Hunsaker and Wilmer and Betty Wright; her mother, Gloria Jean Hunsaker Wright; and her aunt, Gail Louise Hunsaker.

Friends remember her as their rock, the person to whom they could go for any problem, no matter how big or small. Family remembers her as the anchor that held them all together during both life’s darkness and life’s triumph. A spirit like Tina could never be choked by the hands of death, for which she was lives on in each person she touched, now and forever.

Beverly Ann Petty, 68, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 8, 2021 at T J Samson Community Hospital. She was born January 3, 1953 In Adair County, KY to the late Estell and Avis Page Campbell.

Thelma Jane Tone, 81, of Columbia, KY died Monday, August, 9, 2021 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.  She was born on March 1, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Ray and Thelma Herbert Ware. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Tone. 

 

Mrs. Tone was of the Nazarene and Methodist faith, having served as song leader and helped with children ministries in the churches her husband pastored over the years. She had a passion for shoes and purses and loved spending time with her family.

He was a retired employee of CSX Transportation, a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

William “Bill” Allan Rogers, 79, of Louisville, KY died Tuesday, August 3, 2021. He was born in Adair County, KY on November 28, 1941 to the late J.H. and Allene Rogers.

 

Bill was retired from General Electric, a member of Gradyville Methodist Church and Suburban Masonic Lodge #740. He was a man of many interests and hobbies and an all-around awesome man who was loved by all who knew him. He loved watching UK and U of L basketball, spending time with family, listening to Bluegrass music with his Hillview friends and making delicious jams and jellies. But he was best known for his kindness, sense of humor and love for his family.

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Dan and David Rogers.

Sanford Wheat, 76, of Liberty, KY, formerly of Adair County, KY, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at his home. He was born March 12, 1945 in Adair County to the late Orvie and Meadie Corbin Wheat.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Wheat in 1998. He later married Mae Wheat who also preceded him in death in 2004; a son, Jimmy Wheat; and 3 sisters: Altia Laughlin, Edell Melson and Marie Helm.

 

Sanford was a life-long farmer and enjoyed fishing.

MICHAEL LYNN "MIKE" OLLERY, 55, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Michael Lynn “Mike” Ollery, 55, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the TJ Health Columbia Emergency Room.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Turner “Skeezix” Ollery. 

 

Mike was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan, formerly worked for Hancock Furniture and Classic Cabinets, a member of Mt. Carmel Church, and had attended Kellyville Community Church.

RUSSELL "RUSS" DUKE, 62, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 
Russell “ Russ” Duke, 62, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.  Born on December 26, 1958 in Red Bank, New Jersey, he was the son of Warren and Norma Garcia Duke. 
 
Russ worked for 37 years as an Operations Supervisor for Brunswick Zone in Hazlet, New Jersey.  More recently, he was a cross-country delivery driver with his wife, Connie.  This opportunity to travel the country coast-to-coast together, was one both Russ and Connie treasured. Russ was a quiet man with a razor sharp wit and loved by all who knew him well.  He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Donnie Rodgers, 75, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the TJ Health/Columbia Emergency Room. He was born November 3, 1945 in Kemp, KY to the late Paul and Ruth Shuffett Rodgers.

VERLENE SAPP ADAMS, 82, SOMERSET, KY (FORMERLY OF COLUMBIA, KY)

 

Verlene Sapp Adams, 82, of Somerset, KY (formerly of Columbia, KY) died Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was born on February 26, 1939 to the late John Quincy and Lillie Savannah Rich Sapp.

 

Ms. Adams was a member of the Barnett’s Creek United Methodist Church and most recently attended the Grace Baptist Church in Somerset, KY.  She loved her family and friends with all her heart and will be missed by all.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Arnold, Bennie and Ernie Sapp and a sister, Biner Hayes.

3 sons: Dean Adams (Valerie) of Columbia, KY; Randy Adams (Susan) and J.W. Adams (Sandy) both of Somerset, KY

BRENDA HENSON, 69, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Brenda Henson, 69, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, July 31, 2021 at her home. She was born June 1, 1952 in Adair County, KY to the late Atties and Nannie Dohoney Hatcher. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Johnathan Aaron Henson.  Brenda was a member of Cane Valley Christian Church.

WALTER LLOYD CROSS, 80, BURKESVILLE, KY

 

Walter Lloyd Cross, 80, of Burkesville, KY passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at his home. Lloyd was born on November 7, 1940 in Clinton County, KY to the late Elmer Cross and Eva Murphy Cross.

 

Lloyd was a member of Sexton Fork Baptist Church and a retired employee of Mallory's in Glasgow.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Winfred Cross and 3 sisters: Sue Garrett, Gendalene Gibson, and Mary Dean Smith.
