Jean Wheeler, 78, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 7:18 A.M. at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. She was born August 15, 1945 in Adair County to the late Owen and Reaemma Rogers Kemp. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wheeler; a daughter, Valerie Kay Wheeler; her brother, Rayburn Kemp; and her sister, Ernestine Lloyd.

 

Jean was employed by the Adair County School System for over 30 years, retiring as Cafeteria Manager at Adair County High School. She attended Gradyville Baptist Church and was an avid Adair County and University of Kentucky Basketball fan.

He attended Indianapolis Public Schools and had worked at Sexton & Cox Detail & Wash.

Brenda professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a devoted housewife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved decorating homes and weddings. She was a former employee of J.C. Penney.

Fred C. Scheetz, 84, Russell Springs, KY

 
Fred C. Scheetz, 84, of Russell Springs, KY passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on October 13, 1939, the son of the late Audra and Russell Webster. 
 
Fred was proud to be a Kentucky Colonel for over 50 years. He loved his life on his Kentucky farm with his wife, Debbie, and his constant companion, Jack Russell. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and showing them all the wonders of Kentucky. An avid hunter and fisherman, Fred loved the outdoors. He had a special passion for beagles and beagling, and was a past president of the United Beagle Gundog Federation (UBGF). Alongside his wife, Debbie, he trained, trialed, and bred beagles, gaining a notable reputation within the UBGF family. Fred was inducted into the United Beagling Gundog Hall of Fame and proudly finished eleven beagles to field champion status within his 15 years of active membership. He even produced his own bloodline of winning beagles. Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed playing sports including football, softball, bowling, and golf. He also loved camping, horseshoes, antiquing, and many other interests. Fred lived life to the fullest. He retired from Navistar International Harvester as General Superintendent after 30 years of service. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Cundiff, two brothers: David Cundiff and Creal Cundiff and one sister, Marilyn Hunter.

 

Albert was a retired truck driver and enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Sparksville Church of Nazarene. Brenda was a talented country and gospel singer, recording many records and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Orvis Gene Reese, 80, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born in Russell County on November 24, 1943, a son of the late Bro. Olvest T. and Jewell Burton Reese. 
 
Orvis was a proud US Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed his time that he was stationed in Germany and always wanted to return there for a visit. He was a retired grocery store manager. Orvis was of the Christian faith and had been baptized. He enjoyed reading his Bible and had read it through many times. Orvis loved trading knives and coins and going to flea markets.

Gilbert Ray Burton, 98, of Columbia, KY died Friday, June 21, 2024 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was born September 15, 1925 in Adair County, KY to the late Lucian and Belle Redmon Burton. 
 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Burton on June 1, 2011; a daughter, Dorothy Marie Gaskin; his sons-in-law: Dan Gaskin and Frank Goben; and his siblings: Leonard, Ernest, Kyle, Jake, Finis and Forrest Burton, Ruthie Knight and Alta Cook.

 

Mr. Burton was the oldest and longest member, along with his wife Sophia, of Purdy Separate Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a retired dairy farmer.

Johnny Ray “Pops” Walden, 70, of Columbia, KY passed from this life on Friday, June 14, 2024 at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY. He was born in Jefferson County, KY on June 8, 1954 to the late Andrew and Anna (Johnson) Walden.

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Carrying the Torch Ministries. He was a farmer. Mr. Walden loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed watching U of L basketball and football.

David Milby, 69, of Summersville, KY (formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee), son of the late James Roy Milby and Lillian Warren Milby, was born on June 9, 1955 in Taylor County, KY and departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Hospice House in Glasgow.

 

Mr. Milby had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church in Powell, Tennessee. He was a National Gas consultant and was owner and operator of CH4 Concepts. Mr. Milby was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Evangelist William Calvin Reed, 77, of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY. He was born on November 8, 1946 in Glen Burnie, MD to the late William Henry Ealey and Birdie Mae Stapleton Reed.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Newton Vincent Reed and three brothers: Kenneth David Reed, Raymond Farrell Reed, and George Lyndsey Reed.
 
Mr. Reed was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Air Force and was an ordained evangelist.

Eddie Gene Lee, 78, formerly of Russell Springs, KY, passed away peacefully at his home in Greenwood, Indiana, on Friday, June 14, 2024. He was born December 4, 1945 in Russell Springs to Edward C. and Alice J. (Wilson) Lee.
 
Eddie was a terrific husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a man of many different enjoyments, Hunting, Fishing, Golfing, and most of all his family. Eddie spent time in the Airforce in the Vietnam war, at which time he leaned on this faith in God to lead him through those times and bring him into God’s plan for him in this life on earth. He had many jobs over his lifetime; he worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, Cutty Hase Cheese Factory, he a was Truck Driver, Russel Sports Wear, Standard Brands, Nabisco, and Conagra Foods.
 
For the biggest part of his work career, he held different levels of maintenance job titles. He and his wife enjoyed being the host of many of the companies 25th Century club parties. He was a man of few words but the words he spoke were strong and had lots of meaning to those who listen.
 
Many times, throughout this process he would say to the family, to remember that the living have to keep on living and to take care of each other and to remember to take care of yourself.

Mrs. Morrison was a member of the Amazing Grace Church and had a special calling for caring for the elderly. She was formerly very active in Adair County Little League, starting and running the concession stand for many years. She enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Allen Simpson Keltner, 96, of the Clay Ridge Community of Adair County passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Summit Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born in Adair County on November 13, 1927 to the late Allen Ephraim and Ella Frances Edwards Keltner.

 

Mr. Keltner was a retired farmer and had worked for over 56 years at the Greensburg Tobacco Markets.

Fred Dickson, 97, of the Prices Creek community of Adair County, KY passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Monday, June 10, 2024. He was born to the late Charlie Lee and Emma Shirley Dickson on September 28, 1926. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Moore Dickson; a daughter, Linda Dickson Wilson; two brothers: Carl, and Ernest Dickson; and two sisters: Lula Mae Bragg and Marie Dickson.
 
Mr. Dickson made a profession of faith at an early age and was a member of Prices Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until recently when his health failed. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Army as a medic. He was also a familiar face to many from his 44 years of employment at Adair Automotive. He will remain in our hearts as the strong, loving man we fondly called Dad, Pa Fred, and Poppy.

Randall Lee Banks, 74, of Columbia, KY, died Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was born April 7, 1950 in Adair County to the late Marion Winfrey Banks and Lois Farris Bennett Banks who survives. 

 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Banks and an infant sister, Carolyn Sue Banks.

 

Randall was a graduate of WKU with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and continued to be an avid Hilltopper fan. He was a member of Cane Valley Baptist Church, retired from Bank of Columbia and a lifelong farmer.

Rachel Lea, 82, Columbia, KY

 

Rachel Lea, 82, a native of Columbia, KY passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Pearl Baker of Columbia.

 

Rachel was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there when she was needed most, offering support, care, wisdom, and love in abundance to her family and to many families in need in the community. A friend to many, she was a cherished in-home child caregiver. Rachel touched many lives, fostered many babies, and cared for many children in her lifetime.

 

Rachel was a woman of faith who taught her children to love God and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pinellas Park, FL. and a devoted Sunday School Teacher; she loved children and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She will forevermore be missed.

5 grandchildren: Robert Jr., Chelsea, Jonathan, Rachel, and Amber Rose

 

Rachel was married to her husband, Harold Lea, 47 years. He preceded her in death in 2006. 

 

The services to honor and celebrate Rachel's life will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 1:00pmCT at the graveside at Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia, KY so the family can share in the memories and comfort one another. 

 

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Carroll Powell, 82, of Glasgow, KY passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. She was born on May 24, 1942 in Marion County, KY to the late Leo and Charlotte Wilson Wheatley.

 

Carroll was a former Chiropractor Assistant.  

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony “Toot” Wheatley.

Debra Louise Bunch, 55, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 22, 1968 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late Joe and Alice Foster Veatch. 
 
She was a machine operator for BRUSS North America and was a member of Parksridge Church of God. Debra adored her family and loved playing with her grandbabies. She enjoyed watching crime shows on TV. Debra had a very strong faith and loved her Jesus!

Danny C. Miller, 78, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Jean Waddell Hospice Center in Somerset, KY. He was born December 19, 1945 in Russell County, KY, the son of the late Buel Miller and Gladys Antle Miller.
 
He retired from Fruit of the Loom, worked for the Russell County Board of Education, a farmer, a security guard at Jamestown Marina, a United States Army Veteran, and a member of Pine Top Church of Christ.

Mary Joyce Youngs, 91, Columbia, KY

 

Mary Joyce Youngs, 91, of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the Janet Wright Care Facility in Greensburg, KY. She was born on August 16, 1932 in Cortland, NY to the late William and Rose Fenton Allen.
 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Youngs; a daughter, Carol Peasley; and five siblings: Shirley Armitage, Genevie Horton, Layton Allen, LeRoy Allen and John Allen.

 

She was known to friends and family as Joyce. She grew up on a farm in Dryden, NY and attended Dryden High School. Always artistic, in 1950 she created illustrations for her high school yearbook. While married, she participated in the correspondence art school founded by Norman Rockwell, further improving her art skills.  She graduated from high school in three years instead of four. While in high school she played the violin in the high school orchestra.

 

She lived the majority of her life in Dryden, NY. She worked as a cashier in the local IGA store. There were only two grocery stores in that small town, she was well known and liked. She enjoyed hiking on weekends with church members and family. Her children have many happy memories of those country walks. Among her interests was sewing. She taught her daughters and granddaughter how to sew aprons, dresses and skirts. 
 

Joyce Youngs was an active member of the Cortland Seventh Day Adventist Church. For several years she taught in the church Beginners (kindergarten age) class. After retirement, Mrs. Youngs moved with her husband from New York State to Columbia, KY to be closer to family. She joined the Columbia Seventh-day Adventist Church was actively involved and quickly made friends there and with her neighbors. She took another art class thru correspondence to get back into her art.

2 daughters: Diane Wallace and Connie Youngs of Columbia, KY

2 grandchildren: Shawn Peasley and Heather Taft (Jonathan)

A private graveside service will be Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Columbia Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

 

The arrangements are under the direction of the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
 

Lloyd Brockman, 80, Russell Springs, KY

 
Lloyd Brockman, 80, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. He was born on February 26, 1944 in Liberty, KY, a son of the late Marion and Beulah Bernard Brockman.
 
He was a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church, a former truck driver, farmer, feed mill employee and worked at Tarter Gate Company.

2 sons: Doug Brockman and Joe Brockman, both of Russell Springs, KY
1 brother: David Brockman of Milford, OH
1 grandchild: Jaxon Brockman
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laverda Brockman; one granddaughter, Madeleine Brockman; two brothers: Kermit Brockman and Dorman Brockman; and a sister, Jerrene Sayers. 
 
Graveside Service: Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 12:00pmET (11:00amCT) at the Birdie Russell Cemetery in Windsor, KY with Bro. Larold Gosser officiating. There will be no visitation.
