Stanley C. Suffridge, 78, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, KY. Born on November 29, 1943 in Hazard, KY, he was a son of the late Stanley C. and Elizabeth Noble Suffridge.
Stanley served honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps as a young adult. He retired after 30 years with General Motors and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Stanley was a loving husband, father and grandfather and known as an all-around great guy.

Edith Dean “Edie” Denson, 92, of Lexington, KY died Friday, July 29, 2022 at Grandview Nursing Rehabilitation in Campbellsville, KY. She was born on March 2, 1930 in Columbia, KY to the late Luther Thomas and Elnora Beulah Ballard Denson.
Ms. Denson was a member of Broadway Christian Church in Lexington, KY where she received the golden year’s award in appreciation of her Christian witness and dedicated service in 2006. Edie loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends.

Carol Bernard, 81, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was born July 6, 1941 in Russell County, KY, a daughter of the late Arva and Edna Grider Bernard.
She graduated from Russell County High School and Bowling Green Business University. Carol owned and operated a florist, “Carol & Co”, as well as her own furniture store, the “Carriage House”. She had worked as supervisor over the gift shop at Lake Cumberland State Park and in most recent years, as a realtor for Golden Rule Wilson Realty. Carol was a member of the Battlefield Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, but loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren.

JC VanArsdale, 88, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 9:17 A.M. at U.K. Chandler Hospital in Lexington. He was born February 12, 1934 in Adair County to the late Everett and Floy Burris VanArsdale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul VanArsdale and four sisters: Rena Carter, Lou Keltner, Judy Miller and Donna Bivens.
JC was a member of Living By Faith Church, a U.S. Army Veteran, a 56 year member of Columbia Lodge 96, a member of V.F.W. Post 6097 and was owner of Dixie Cash & Carry for many years.

Chester Voils, III, 29, of Russell Springs, KY, known by all as “Chedder” and by his aunt as “Mario”, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was born in Somerset, KY on May 30, 1993, a son of Chester Voils, Jr. and Amanda Grimes Whittle.
He was a kind-hearted young man who will be remembered for his big smile and personality. No one could be sad around Chedder; he always had a funny story to tell. He was an animal lover.
Chedder was a loving son to his father, Chester Voils, Jr., and had missed him deeply since his passing in September 2021. He was a devoted father to his son, Colbie. Anyone who knew and loved Chedder would say his was a light dimmed too soon.

Patty Ann Scott Keltner, 68, of the Portland community of Adair County, KY died Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 1:33 A.M. at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. She was born June 21, 1954 in Campbellsville, KY.
Patty graduated from Taylor County High School, worked at Osh Kosh B’Gosh for many years, was a homemaker, and a member of Columbia Baptist Church where she was always involved in youth activities. She was more recently involved with the youth at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Scott, her step-father, Everett Wilson and a daughter, Lisa Crawhorn.

Lavern Bennett, 87, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Danville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, KY. Born May 22, 1935 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Olis Elmer and Velva Wilmerth Patterson Bennett.
Lavern was well-known in the community for “Bennett’s Produce”, a fruit and vegetable stand that he managed at various locations in the county for over 50 years. When he wasn’t busy working, he enjoyed playing cards and Chinese checkers. Lavern also enjoyed talking to people. He was known for “telling stories” that were “maybe not all true.” Lavern dearly loved his family and spending time with all of them.

Clara Flowers, 87, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born June 8, 1935 in Adair County, KY to the late Earl and Jennie Vee Ewing Willis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Flowers, two grandchildren, Briceson Crawley and Mytaya Willis, one brother, Ralph Willis and one sister, Kay Willis Scott.
Clara attended Jackman High and later attended Kentucky State University. She worked at Williams Cleaners and retired from Osh Kosh B’Gosh. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Church where she served as President of the Usher Board and Gospel Choir and a member of the Zion District Choir. She would lend a helping hand and was very devoted to her family.

Lynda Lee Loy, 77, of Russell Springs, KY died Wednesday afternoon, July 20, 2022 at Russell County Hospital. Born February 13, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia, Lynda was formerly a Moffett, and grew up in Nicholasville, KY.
She married Charles Loy in 1961. They welcomed a son, Matthew Loy, in 1970. She was a factory worker before opening her own daycare that she ran and operated for over 20 years. The children that she helped to raise, many now adults, remember her fondly for her immense wisdom and unique ability to approach any situation or person with compassion and warmth. “Nanny” will never be forgotten by those she so diligently took care of.

Helen Ann Grider-Brumley, 82, of Russell Springs, KY passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Born April 13, 1940 in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Ruel and Mary Dowell Beck Grider.
Helen was a former Vice President of Savings at First National Bank in Russell Springs. She also was a Longaberger Basket Dealer. Helen loved to bake for family and friends and was known to enjoy being able to “wheel and deal” with people, if the opportunity arose. She was a member of Jamestown Christian Church and she dearly loved her “church family.” Helen was a pianist and organist for the church for over 65 years.
Survivors include two sons: Steven Karl (and Jan) Brumley of Russell Springs, and Tyler Brent Brumley of Jamestown; a daughter, Susan Brumley-Melton (and Jerry); a sister, Leontine Sullivan-Bihr (and Bill) of Russell Springs; two sisters-in-law; Wilma Grider of Lexington and Brenda Brumley of Jamestown; a brother-in-law, Danny (and Carol) Brumley of Jamestown; 4 grandchildren: Jordan Brumley, Jade Brumley, Hannah Brumley, and Anaston Brumley; one great-grandchild, Owen Reece Brumley; and special friends: Lisa Tarter and Rick Mann.

ESSIE "JEAN' MOORE, 87, passed away on Wednesday, July, 13 2022 at Huntington Woods Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westlake, Ohio. She was born in Beauty, Martin County, KY on November 7, 1934, the only child of the late James “Major” Preece and Mary Alice (Branham).
During high school, Theodore and Edna Younce fostered her and welcomed her into their home as their own. Jean graduated from Warfield (Kentucky) High School in 1952. On July 6, 1954 she married her sweetheart, the late Billy Gene Moore, in Switzer, Logan County, West Virginia. For their honeymoon, she chuckled that they had a bologna sandwich at a local park. Throughout her life, Billy always chided her that he was one day her senior. Shortly after marriage, Billy and Jean moved to Columbus, Ohio and a few years later to Cleveland for work. In 1976, they moved to Columbia, KY where they made their home until she moved to her son’s home in Cleveland in 2021.
During her life, Jean worked as a secretary for a law firm, a seamstress for Joseph & Feiss, newspaper delivery woman, a farmer with her husband and provided self-employed home and office cleaning services and was a nurse's aide. Jean loved the Lord and her church. Before the onset of dementia, she was an active member of Columbia (Kentucky) Christian Church. She loved to travel, eat out, crochet and sing gospel music. In recent years, she rarely went anywhere without her beloved doggie, Bear.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Moore; her daughter, Patricia (Moore) Burton; her son, James Dean Moore; and 6 half-sisters & 2 half-brothers.

Harold Ray Warren, 83, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY. He was born on October 13, 1938 in Knifley, KY to the late Virgil and Thelma Sinclair Warren.
Mr. Warren attended the Knifley Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and he and his wife was former members of the Sonshine Quartet. He enjoyed making furniture and playing the guitar.

Derek Wade Cowan, 40, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, July 10, 2022 in Knifley, KY. He was the son of Rebecca Thomas of Columbia, KY and the late Roger Lynn Cowan.
Derek was free spirited, fun loving and a warm hearted man. He enjoyed doing yard work and helping anyone and everyone; he never met a stranger.

Wayne Eastridge, 83, of Knifley, KY died Monday, July 11, 2022 in Louisville, KY from an extended illness. He was the son of the late Coy Eastridge and Opal Hovious Eastridge and was born on January 27, 1939 at the family’s home on Hovious Ridge.
He was a life-long farmer. He grew up on a dairy farm and continued dairy farming until the cows were sold in 2001. Upon selling the dairy cows, he continued with beef cattle, horses, pigs, and sheep. Throughout his farming career, he enjoyed caring for and trading many different animals, sometimes even exotic animals. He bred horses and donkeys for many years, including small and large donkeys until the time of his death. Over many years, he was an avid raccoon, rabbit, and quail hunter. He enjoyed hunting with many family members and passing this interest on to his two sons. He often spoke of hunting trips to Canada and Illinois. He traded hunting dogs for rabbits and raccoons for many years. He was an avid collector of knives and guns, which is an interest he passed on to his sons and daughter as well.
He was married to Mildred Aliene Davidson Eastridge on January 27, 1959. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in January, 2022. She worked side-by-side with him on the farm and survives today.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Eastridge of Elkhorn.

Margie Burton Stigall, 91, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late John Raymond Miller and Emma Dykes Miller, was born April 26, 1931 in Adair County and departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Campbellsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Temple. Margie loved to read, listen to country music, and loved spending time with her family.
She united in marriage to Kile Burton, and he preceded her in death February 2013.
Wendell Burton, 71, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on October 11, 1950 in Adair County to the late Lether and Ruthie Bryant Burton.
Wendell had professed his faith in Christ and dedicated his life to his farm, helping his neighbors and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He married the late Helen Faye Kemp Burton on June 26, 1970.

Rebecca Schetler, 75, of Louisville, KY passed away on the morning of July 5, 2022 surrounded by family at her home in Columbia. She was born on April 5, 1947 to the late Charles Frederick and Mildred M. Bratcher.
She was lovingly raised by her mother and stepfather, Charles Francis Metten. During her youth, she was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Bardstown, KY followed by a membership of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Jamestown, KY later in life. Rebecca enjoyed a full and adventurous life with various careers. Her fondest stories were from her employment at E&H Electrical, Fruit of the Loom, and Coffey’s Veterinary Center where she retired at the age of 68. Rebecca loved riding and showing horses, playing guitar and singing, and telling tales of her youth. She was a loving and spirited mother and grandmother and a devoted donor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Christine McQueary, 81, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022. She was born May 28, 1941 in Russell County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Luona Higginbotham George.
She married Glenvil McQueary on June 1, 1963. They celebrated over 58 years of marriage. Glenvil passed away May 13, 2022. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Elaine George and Diane George.
Christine ran her own fabric and glassware businesses. She helped Glenvil with auctions and benefits. She loved their time together, whether it was at home, bargain shopping or sight-seeing. Christine was a private lady who was happy being with her family. She was a devoted grandmother who would do anything for her grandkids. She enjoyed cooking and made sure everyone had their favorites, from drinks to desserts and everything in between.

Alan accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age and joined the Green Castle Baptist Church. He was a great athlete that played football at Ballard High School and as a senior he was selected to the Kentucky Allstars.

Eloise was the owner and operator of Eloise’s Wallpaper and Paint for over 40 years. She enjoyed her work, going to church activities, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.

Barbara retired from Stephens Pipe and Steel as their accounts payable manager. She loved her job and her friends at work. She was an avid UK sports fan who enjoyed playing bingo and working crossword puzzles. Barbara was of the Baptist faith.

Lillie Pearl “Polly” Banks, 93, passed from this life at her home on Thursday, June 30, 2022. She was born in the Chance community of Adair County on October 15, 1928, the daughter of William Ancil and Elmer Lee Burbridge Thomas
Polly was a devoted, long-time member of the Columbia Church of the Nazarene. She loved to read, take bus trips with friends, and do just about anything outdoors, especially raise a garden. She also loved to sew and particularly enjoyed making quilts.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George Banks (in 1997) and by 3 sisters & 2 brothers: Jewel Thomas Luchowski, Jack Thomas, Beatrice Thomas, Opal Thomas Ceresero and JB Thomas.
SURVIVORS:
3 children: Ernie Matney, Sandy Matney Kimbler and Donna Banks White (Rodney)
4 grandsons: Kerry Matney, Jeremy Kimbler, Troy Kimbler and Rob White (Jessica)
3 great-granddaughters: Sydney, Sophie and Kaydence Kimbler.
