Albert G. Madonna, 95, of Columbia, KY died Monday, January 27, 2020 at his residence. Born in Parkesburg, PA he was the son of the late Dominic & Carmela Laudadio Madonna and husband of the late Betty Lou Reese Madonna.
 
Mr. Madonna was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army.  He loved the outdoors and building wooden boats.

1 son: Alan Madonna of Pennsylvania

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 603 West 2nd Ave., Parkesburg, PA followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the church from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Glen Flippo, 64, of Columbia, died suddenly Monday, January 27, 2020 in Lake City, Florida. He was born November 4, 1955 in Owens Crossroads, Alabama.  
 
Glen was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Flippo, 1 daughter, Jenny Turner, and 2 grandchildren.  
 
Glen was a truck driver and currently employed by Rogers Trucking Company in Columbia.

LOWELL DOUGLAS WALDEN, 64, COLUMBIA

 

Lowell Douglas Walden, 64, of Columbia, KY son of the late Andrew Richard and Anna Francis (Johnson) Walden, was born in Oldham County on May 24, 1955. He departed this life on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Adair County at T.J. Health Columbia. 
 
Lowell made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a carpenter and farmer by trade, and a member of the Simpsonville Volunteer Fire Department over 40 years. He loved being able to help his community - collecting donations for the Crusade for Children was a favorite time of year for him. He was an avid UK basketball fan and a collector of Elvis memorabilia.
 
He was also preceded in death by an uncle he loved like a father: Ernest Lee Walden; 2 siblings: Andy Lee Walden and Margaret Spears; and 5 nieces and nephews: Danny Cline, Carl Cline, Donald Reese, Kimberly Reese, and Mary Ann Jones.

Mrs. Killian loved crafting, quilting and all animals.

Sara Jean Lawrence Marshall, 93, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Summit Manor Nursing Home. Born in Michigan, she was the daughter of the late George & Mary Frances Stephens Lawrence and wife of the late James Clyde "J.C." Marshall.

 

Mrs. Marshall was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and former Librarian at John Adair Middle School. She loved playing bridge and golf.

 

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her husband’s Welby Thomas and James Burris.

Dorothy Mae Shelley, 95, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Summit Manor Nursing Home. Born in Greensburg, KY she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lorraine Squires Thompson and wife of the late John Marshall Shelley Sr.
 
Mrs. Shelley was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and a former employee of First and Farmers Bank, formerly known as First National Bank of Columbia, where she gave 44 years of service to the citizens of Adair County. She loved gardening, quilting and working outdoors in her yard.
 
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister Peggy Mitchell.

Donnie was a former employee of Gibson Lumber and Cox Interior and a former member of the Breeding Fire Department.

Richard A. Banks, 71, of Columbia, KY died Friday, January 17, 2020 at 2:25 A.M. at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia. He was born August 21, 1948 in Adair County, KY, a son of the late Winfrey Banks and Lois Farris Banks (who survives).
 
Richard was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and the Adair County Cattlemen’s Association. He was a farmer.

MARY ANNIS FEESE COOLEY, 86, ADAIR CO.

 

Mary Annis Feese Cooley, 86, of the Egypt Community of Adair County, KY died Tuesday, January 14, 2020. She was born September 28, 1933 the first of three children of the late Earl & Verna Ferrell Feese.

 

Mary was a member of Plum Point Baptist Church where she attended faithfully and enjoyed being a part of the music program. She attended Egypt Christian Church most of her adult life where she taught Sunday School and led singing. Mary was renowned for her knowledge of the Bible, often recruited for discussions. She was a founding member of the Egypt Gospel Quartet and anyone who knew her understood she was passionate about gospel music, especially four part harmony. They blessed countless people throughout the years with live shows at various venues, published recordings, and a live radio program featured on WAIN for many years. Second, only to her love of the Lord, was her dedication and love for family and community. Mary retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after 44 years of dedicated service.

Jim Moss, 71, of Columbia, KY died at his home in December, 2019. He was born January 21, 1948 to the late James Philip and Geraldine Baker Moss. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Coomer. 
 
Jim was a member of Egypt Christian Church and a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He served the Adair County School District as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director where he was a mentor and positive influence to many. He was a wonderful father and a loving husband that will be missed by his family, church and community.

Ramona Barbee, 80, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, January 12, 2020 at her home. She was born April 9, 1939 in Sparksville, KY to the late Ottie and Maxine Harvey Wheeler.  
 
Ramona was one of the most loved high school teachers in Adair County and impacted so many lives, retiring after 27 years in the Adair County School System, most of those years in the business department. She always rooted for the underprivileged student to excel and become the most they could be.  She always brought a smile to whomever she met and welcomed everyone for an amazing country cooked meal. Ramona was a member of Columbia Christian Church.
 
She married Joe Lynn Barbee of Columbia, KY and together they had 2 daughters.

Joyce (Loy) Hoots, 84, of Columbia, KY passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 following a sudden illness. She was born March 26, 1935 in Russell County, KY to the late James Alexander and Gertrude (Lawless) Loy. 
 
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister. Joyce moved to Adair County at the age of 18, and in 1953 met and married the love of her life, Walter (Gene) Hoots, who preceded her in death in February 2018.  
 
Joyce was also preceded in death by 2 brothers & their wives: Donald Loy & wife Joyce and Kenneth Loy & wife Deanna; 2 brothers-in-law: Royce Wilson and Rev. Bob Hoots; 3 sisters-in-law: Phyllis Loy, Ellen Loy, and Shirley (Hoots) Frank.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dunbar in 1957.

J.S. Emerson, 86, of Russell Springs, KY died Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Russell County Hospital. He was born January 4, 1934 in Russell County to the late Ira & Elda Harris Emerson.
 
Mr. Emerson was a member of Russell Springs United Baptist Church where he served as deacon, song leader, and teacher. He was co-owner of Emerson's Manufacturing Company and a former Russell Springs City Councilman.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Hubbard.

Ruth White, 87, of Columbia, KY, formerly of Campbellsville, KY passed peacefully from this life on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Taylor Regional Hospital. She was born to the late Elmer W. and Lola (Pike) Clark on January 29, 1932 in Taylor County. 
 
Ruth was a retiree of the United States Department of Agriculture, and a faithful member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. White carried herself with dignity and respect, and engrained a legacy of compassion and love in her children and grandchildren.
 
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Clark.

of U.S. Army.

Michael “Bass” Tarter,  63, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Grandview Nursing and Rehab Center in Campbellsville, KY. He was born on August 30, 1956 in Cincinnati, OH. to the late Clifford Tarter and Bonnie Price Tarter. 
 
Michael was an avid fisherman known as “Bass” to his friends. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger. Michael had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew him.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John & Jeff Tarter and one infant sister, Betty Lou Tarter.

TERRY KING, 55, CAMPBELLSVILLE

 

Terry King, 55, of Campbellsville, KY passed from this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Louisville at the Norton Pavilion Hospice facility. He was born on August 4, 1964 to Judy (Bishop) Vetter and the late Kelly Burton.

 

As a child, he was left with a permanent disability as the result of an unfortunate accident, but he still became a talented drummer and guitarist. He enjoyed watching watching movies with his family, and will be remembered as a great dad and grandfather.

 

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, George Vetter, who loved him and raised him as his own.

ESTIL JESSEE, 87, COLUMBIA


Estil Jessee, 87, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at T.J. Health Columbia. Born in Metcalfe County, he was the son of the late Carver and Nellie Estes Jessee. 

 

Mr. Jessee was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as the oldest Usher for several years, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for Shell Oil Co. and a farmer. He loved his tractor and being involved with tractor shows in the area, winning many awards.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Jessee; a brother, Autrice Jessee; and a sister, Beatrice Hagan.

Louvenia Bryant, 80, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY.  Born in Adair County, she was the daughter of the late George Otis and Eva Mae Franklin Rodgers.

 

Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and a former employee of Summit Manor Nursing Home and Westlake Home Health. She loved quilting and spending time with her family.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alesha Ann Morrison; 3 sisters: Flossie Beard, Nona Burton and Fannie Franklin; and 2 brothers: Clifton and L. C. Rodgers.
