PHYLLIS ROGERS GREEN, 74, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Phyllis Green Rogers, 74, of Columbia, KY died early Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at her home. She was born in the Gradyville community of Adair County on July 18, 1946 to the late William Clyde Grant and Nealie Keltner Grant. 
 

Phyllis was a co-founder of Rogers Trucking Inc. Some of her interests included spending time in Florida, bowling, watching UK basketball and the Western Channel.

 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Tommy Rogers; one brother, Raymond Grant; one sister, Janet Grant; and one step-grandson, Kody Pelly.

Wilma Jean Scholl, 83, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY. She was born in Lebanon, KY on March 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Mary E. (Helm) and Waif Tungate.
 
Wilma was a homemaker.
 
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Tungate and 5 sisters: Orleen Bullock, Pat Popplewell, Roberta Marshall, Hallie Tungate and Francis Tungate.

TIMMY WEBB, 62, ELK HORN, KY

 

Timmy Webb, 62, of Elk Horn, KY, son of the late Roy Allen Webb and Jewell Garrett Webb, was born September 14, 1958 in Marion County, KY. He died at 7:26 P.M., Sunday, June 27 2021 in Louisville.  

 

Timmy professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a former construction worker. Timmy enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his grandchildren and was a devoted husband and a loyal friend who humorously showed the kids and grandkids “what not to do” by his example.  

 

He united in marriage to Linda Swallows on July 29, 1989.

JOE FRANK LOY, 84, FLORIDA (FAIRPLAY NATIVE)

 
Joe Frank Loy, 84, born June 27, 1936 in Fairplay, KY, son of the late Robert Elmer and Nola Brummett Loy, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 13, 2021 at his home in south Florida with his family.
 
After retiring he had many adventures, including creating and selling his Joe Possum Diner t-shirts, traveling and living in the southwest. His favorite place was in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, where he handcrafted Cholla Cactus Crosses. He gave over 800 away as gifts to family, friends and famous folks including Billy Graham and Nelson Mandela. Both are now in museums. He had many interests ... He was an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter. He grew a garden which included gords in Columbia, KY. He had a special cat named "Tiger" that lived with his former wife, Shirley Ann Loy. He was always looking for treasures ...arrow heads, buttons, bottles, knives, gems and fossils. He was known for his famous Joe Possum Diner t-shirts. He played the part of the judge in the movie Resurrection Mary, filmed in Columbia, KY in 2003. In his later years he told God that he would do anything for him and that he wanted to help people get to know Jesus and get saved.
 
He was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Kathleen Buchanan, Evlaee Churchill, Mary Victoria "Vicki" Green and Sophia Alberta Wheelock and 6 brothers: Robert Dellous Loy, Albert Wesley Loy, Elmer Loy, Jr., Clifton Loy, John Birtrus Loy and William David Loy.

Kenneth Conrad, 76, of Richmond, KY passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 25, 1945 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the son of Nelson and Georgia Young Conrad, both of whom preceded him in death. 
 
Kenneth was retired from Hitachi as Operations Manager and was a member of Madison Hills Christian Church.  He was a 1963 Graduate of Adair County High School.

Amanda Ann Butler, 41, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was born on December 22, 1979 to the late Darlene Lois Waite Butler and Jeffrey Butler of Columbia who survives.

 

Amanda was a member of the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church and enjoyed scrapbooking, sitting outside and spending time with her grandchildren.

Terra Lynn Loy, 37, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center, in Somerset. Born on December 16, 1983 in Adair County, KY, she was the daughter of Ricky Loy and Connie Flatt Loy McFarland. 

 

Terra was such an outgoing, social person. She was a member of the Russell County High School Graduating Class of 2003, where she was voted the “Most Ambitious in Choir”. Terra loved “her horses”, going to church and listening to good gospel music. She attended Ono Community Church with her mom. Terra was a sweetheart of a young lady with the biggest heart.

 

Preceding Terra in death are her paternal grandparents, Bill and Myrtle Loy; her maternal grandfather, Orvin Flatt; and her step-fathers: Glen Nevels and Mark McFarland.

Christina Lynsey Banquirigo, 31, of Thompsonville, IL died Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Hospice Medical Center. Christina was born in Toledo, OH on October 14, 1989, the daughter of Timothy and Stephanie Sawyer Frey of Breeding, KY (who survives).
 
Christina was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed hiking, camping and being outdoors.

BRO. RAYMOND A. MARTIN, 97, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Bro. Raymond A. Martin, 97, of Columbia, KY passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at his home. Bro. Martin was born on October 16, 1923 in the Glendale Community of Hardin County, KY to the late Fred and Irene Dunagan Martin.

 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during World War II. After returning home from war, he attended Johnson Bible College where he graduated in 1952. After graduation, he served churches in Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Kentucky, later finding a home at Columbia Christian Church where he served as minister for 20 years. After the conclusion of his service at Columbia Christian Church, he served many other Christian churches in the area filling in or serving part-time, and during this time also holding revivals and other meetings. His detailed records show he conducted 614 baptisms, 133 weddings, and 1,037 funerals. His Christian legacy will live on through the many lives that he has touched.

 

In addition to his ministry, Bro. Martin was an avid sports fan and was  a strong supporter of Adair County High School Athletics and Lindsey Wilson College Athletics.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Cofer Martin; his 2nd wife, Martha Barnes Martin; one daughter, Becky Hamm; one grandson, Blake Burris Martin; 2 brothers: Fred Lewis Martin and Frank Martin; and a sister, Norma Jean Perry.

Johnny D. Mathews, 77, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Russell County Hospital. He was born September 7, 1943 in Poplar Hill, KY, the son of the late Ruba Mathews and Bertha Carmichael Mathews.
 
Johnny was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was a welder, carpenter and a farmer. 
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dallon Mathews and his siblings: Thomas Mathews, Willie Mathews, Dennis Mathews, Martha Johnson, Marcella Chrisfield, Dorothy Coffey, Irene Gosser and Wanda Murphy.

William Douglas Anderson, 75, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his home. He was born on June 17, 1946 in the Jabez Community of Russell County, KY, the son of the late William Arthur and Bessie Murl Polston Anderson. 
 
William was a former factory worker for Freightliner, as well as Superior Battery and Tarter Gate. He enjoyed mowing yards, fishing, and spending time with his family. William was a member of Mt. Hope Separate Baptist Church. 
 
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Hunter Bowen.

Randy Lee Harris, 58, of Russell Springs, KY passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 18, 2021. He was born November 26, 1962 in Indiana, to Limon and Alberta Harris. He was preceded in death by his father.
 
Randy loved being Dad and Pop to his children and grandchildren more than any other job in the world. The pride he showed for all of them is something that can never be matched. He had many years of practice as "Uncle Randy" before his greatest role as Dad and cherished that job deeply as well.  He was genuine, kind, and the best father anyone could ask for. He found purpose in warming the hearts of anyone he talked to and a piece of him lives on through all of us. Randy meant more than words could ever describe. His family will continue his legacy by living their best lives and staying true to his famous words: “Nothin’ to it, but to do it.”

Arlo Eugene Richard, 88, of Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 16th, 2021. He was born in Jamestown, KY, a son of the late Eula (Barker) and Homer Richard. 

Arlo served his country in the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict. He worked for 30 years at Brown and Williamson and was a member of Vineville Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and brother.

KEITH VICTOR COOMER, 65, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 
Keith Victor Coomer, 65, was born February 22, 1956 in Campbellsville, KY, a son of the late Florence Opal Shuffett Coomer and Joseph Lynn Coomer, and departed this life suddenly on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Delmer Coomer and his brother in law, Joe Marshall.
 
Keith professed his Faith in Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of Liberty Separate Baptist Church in Green County. He worked at Green River Lake for many years where he was fondly known as Big Daddy or Doc. Keith never met a stranger and loved to make everyone laugh. His greatest enjoyment came from joking and pranking until you laughed along with him. He had scores of “kids” whom he thought of as his own and in his heart, they all truly were his own.

Barry L Bailey, 71, of Glens Fork, KY, passed away Monday, June 14th, at his residence. He was born in Jamestown, KY on July 30, 1949, a son of the late Sadie (Lynn) and Eldon Bailey.
 
Mr. Bailey was in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He worked at Fruit of the Loom as well as farmed. Barry enjoyed fishing and farming.

Joe was a hardworking man and enjoyed farming especially working around cattle. He was a Lineman for the Duo Telephone Company for over 30 years prior to his retirement and will be remembered for his kind-heartedness and generosity.

Helen B. Chumbley Oakes, 76, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, KY. She was born on June 18, 1944 in Russell County, the daughter of the late John and Ermine Roy Chumbley.  
 
Helen married Lewell “Beager” Oakes on August 15, 1964 in Jamestown, Tennessee. The couple shared over 53 years together, working the family dairy farm side by side. Helen loved making her flower beds and enjoyed embroidering, sewing and quilting.
 
Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by “the love of her life”, her husband, Lewell “Beager” Oakes, who passed away on March 10, 2018; her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Jo Oakes; 3 brothers: Ernest Chumbley, Arlis Chumbley and Carlus Chumbley; and 5 sisters: Velna Oakes, Goldie McQueary, Dortha Hopper, Lorene Popplewell and Betty Bunch.

Sadie Marie Wilson, 85, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, June 07 2021 at Hospice House of Marion County, Florida. She was born February 27, 1936 in Pineville, KY, the daughter of the late Myrtle LeMarr Cox. 

 

She was a retired employee of Walmart and member of Lighthouse Church and a volunteer with Hospice of Lake Cumberland for many years.

 

Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wilson.

RONDALL FREDRICK "FREDDY" GIBSON, 67, BREEDING, KY

 
Rondall  Fredrick "Freddy" Gibson, 67, of Breeding, KY died Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. He was born in Glasgow, KY on November 2, 1953 to the late Albert Waldon "Bud" Gibson and Mable Myers Gibson.
 
Rondall was a member of the Harrods Fork Baptist Church and an Oil Well Operator for Reliford Drilling for over 35 years. Growing up he worked for the many businesses his family owned including road construction, a coal mine, saw mill, and the former Breeding Funeral Home. He was an avid farmer and had his own mechanical shop in Breeding often working seven days a week, and repairing equipment for everyone around him. He was a good friend to anyone who knew him, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Lynn Wilson Gibson on January 27, 2012; a sister, Carolyn Jean Gibson Irby; and his father & mother in-law, Johnny and Webba Wilson.

Iva Dean Emerson, 79, of Liberty, KY passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Casey County Hospital. Born on February 6, 1942, in Lincoln County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Amy Estes Sims. 
 
Iva Dean attended Liberty Church of God. She was a member of Pond Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, making clothes, and riding in their Corvette in the Apple Festival. 
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hart; and a brother, Donald Estes.

NADEAN WILSON, 82, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 

Nadean Wilson,  82, passed away peacefully at her home in the Font Hill Community of Russell Springs on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. She was born June 23, 1938 in Sunshine, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Farris and Zilma McQueary Popplewell.

 

Nadean was a lady of many talents. She loved to quilt and paint, and was a wonderful cook. Nadean was a member of Mt. Eden Missionary Baptist Church. She was lovingly known as “Mamaw” to all her family and friends that will dearly miss her.

Brittany Michaela Crockett, 27, was born May 10, 1994 in Louisville, KY. She was a gift from God from her first breath. Brittany went to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

 

Brittany loved video games, researching on the internet, animals and being with her “granny”.

Lawrence “Poppy” B. Robertson, 96, passed away peacefully at the home of his grandchildren, Joe and Scarlett Cmiel, in Cloverdale, IN, on May 30, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1924 to the late Melvin and Mary Belle (Hill) Robertson
 
Poppy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Louella (Ashbrook) Robertson, and his only child, Linda Lou Moore. He was one of 8 children and was the last surviving sibling, having been preceded in death by his brothers: Luther, Lester, Lucian, and Larry; and sisters, Lurie, Lorene (Nelson) and Lora Pearl (Hadley).  
 
Poppy loved gardening, making people smile, and everything “Kentucky.”  For every day of the more than seven years he was in Indiana with Joe and Scarlett, he wished he was back home in his beloved Russell Springs, KY.

Bro. Dewey Ray Rooks, 75, of Columbia, KY died Monday, May 31, 2021 at Baptist Health Continue Care Hospital in Corbin, KY. He was born August 13, 1945 to the late Delmar and Flossie Burton Rooks.
 
Bro. Rooks was the pastor of the Lovedale Church in Adair County and shared his passion for Christ with many. He very much loved spending time with his wife and family and enjoyed porch sitting with his neighbors.
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Rooks.

BETTY ROBERTSON THORSEN, 78, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY


Betty Robertson Thorsen, 78, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center, in Somerset.  She was born on August 5, 1942 in Russell County, KY, a daughter of the late Willis and Lois Luttrell Robertson. 
 

Though she prided herself in being a homemaker for her family, Betty obtained her CDL and drove a tractor trailer truck across the United States. She had also worked as a manager of a shoe store in Campbellsville and as a jewelry store manager in Greenville, South Carolina. She was an avid gardener.
