William Curtis “Curt” Wilson, 59, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday July 29, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was born on May 12, 1965 in Jacksonville, Florida, a son of Karen “Vern” Whittle Rose and the late Dalton Earl Wilson. 
 

Curt worked as a truck driver for many years.

His mother: Karen “Vern” Rose of Russell Springs

2 sons: Colt (Erica) Wilson of Lexington and Damien Wilson of Russell Springs

2 brothers: John Brownlee of Louisville and Brad Cooper of Russell Springs

3 sisters: Theda (Mike) Bernard of Crestview, Florida, Tara (Lee) Warriner of Columbia, and Tonya (Ryan) Thompson of Nancy

1 grandson: Ethan Wilson

 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by three brothers: David E. Wilson, Joshua D. Wilson, and Dalton “Wesley” Wilson; and his stepfather, Justin Rose.

 

All services are private. Burial will be in the Cunningham Cemetery.

Delora E. Ford, 91, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Campbellsville, KY died July 27, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida. She was born August 21, 1932, in Campbellsville to the late William T. and Anna Mary Hunt Blevins.

 

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Paul Ford, on February 1, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2012. 
 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Ford and nine siblings: Thomas Blevins, Otha Blevins, William Blevins, Ina Tucker, Veda Thomas, Haskel Blevins, Ivan Blevins and Cecil Blevins.

 

She was a retired Fruit of the Loom worker, a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church and loved going to McDonald’s every morning with her friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rollin Clifton “Jimmy” Antle and his sister, Vickie Anderson.

 

Jack was a U.S. Navy Veteran, attended Haven Mission Church and 3Trees Church, enjoyed playing music and talking with anybody he came in contact with.

Vernon C. Parson, 79, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 1:47 A.M. at T.J. Health/Columbia Emergency Room. He was born February 15, 1945 in Adair County to the late Andy Clifton and Ada Frances Richard Parson. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Taylor Parson on November 8, 2022, his son-in-law, Mike Burris, three brothers, Carl, Leroy and Clell Parson and his sister, Ruth Bell.

 

Vernon was a member of Gradyville Baptist Church, but enjoyed visiting several churches, and retired from Greensburg Manufacturing.

Ronnie Brandenburg, 71, of Knifley, KY died Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 9, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Burton and Alma Tedder Brandenburg. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Bray Brandenburg on July 21, 2012; one brother, Kenny Brandenburg; and five sisters: Eillene, Violet, Donna, Judy and Barbara.

 

Ronnie was a founding member of the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department where he served faithfully, a member of the former Adair Search and Rescue, attended Knifley Christian Church, and was a Transporter for Adanta.

Jeanette (“Jan”) Eastham Stocksdale, 89, of Urbana, Ohio passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY. She was born in Esto, Kentucky on December 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Omri and Elise Eastham.

 

Jan was also a part-year resident of Jamestown, Kentucky where she enjoyed family, friends and Lake Cumberland. Her life revolved around her family, especially the grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Fletcher.

 

Mrs. Fletcher was a member of the Emory’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of the Adair County Cattleman’s Association. She enjoyed working on the farm with her late husband Bobby and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Arthur Singleton, 81, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY. He was born on May 25, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee, a son of the late Arthur and Ella Azalee Anderson Singleton. 
 
Arthur was a retired truck driver of over 42 years for Nashville Sash and Door. He was a faithful member and deacon of Thomas Ridge Church. Thomas was a very kind and sweet man who was also strong willed and independent. He was an avid fisherman and loved his family dearly

Bill Glen Selby, 85, was born on August 23, 1938. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who sadly left this world on July 11, 2024.

 

Bill lived a rich life of service and kindness alongside his wife, Margaret for almost 60 years. He served his country in the United States Air Force and lived through the treacherous time of the Vietnam war. After he left the military, he worked for Caterpillar Inc. until he retired.

Bro. Bill K. Welker, 85, of Jamestown, KY passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY. He was born in Louisville, KY on November 18, 1938, a son of the late Clara Lucille (Edlin) and William Robert Welker.

Bro. Bill got to serve the Lord in so many ways: he designed, directed, and managed church camps in different states, police officer and chaplain for Jefferson County and Virginia Beach. led and worked on mission trips to Jamaica and St. Vincent, and preached and served churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and Ohio. 

Bro. Bill was a Kentucky Colonel given by Governor Louie B, Nunn in March of 1978. A few things he enjoyed doing in his spare time were buying antiques and junk as well as being outdoors fishing and hunting.

Ida “Genette” Burton, 78, of Mt. Auburn, Indiana passed away from this life at 7:39 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024 at home surrounded with love. She was born September 3, 1945 in Sparksville, KY, the daughter of the late James Molen and Ida Ezola Corbin.  
 
Mrs. Burton was a homemaker who loved the Lord and enjoyed her many collections, crafting, making ceramics. She had a love for animals and enjoyed sitting on the front porch and spending time visiting with her family. She loved family and togetherness, the outdoors, fishing, flowers, and gardening. Mrs. Burton also loved being a grandmother. She loved the beauty of her home (Kentucky) and sharing it with all of her family. Mrs. Burton was a woman of God and a woman of many hobbies including ceramics, crafting, and collecting. She loved animals and caring for others. Mrs. Burton was the light in many lives, what many would call the heart of the family. She loved with all her heart and made everyone in her presence feel comfortable. She is an unforgettable soul and her legacy and all the beautiful characteristics she taught will continue to live on through all her family.

Annabelle Pyles, 82, of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born January 9, 1942 in Jamestown, KY to the late Louis Bryant and Lola Alma Woolridge Snow.

 

Annabelle graduated from Russell County High School in 1960 to then attend Illinois Masonic Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in 3 years to become an RN.  She worked many years at Adair Memorial and Westlake Hospitals in Columbia, covering in all areas such as surgery, the ER and her favorite, Obstetrics - delivering babies. She also worked with the Adair County Health Department part-time while transitioning to be active in building the family business now known as Joe Pyles Brick and Block. She was co-founder and co-owner, doing all accounting and clerical duties for the company and its varied diversified interests until June of this year. 

 

Annabelle was a loving, supportive and faithful partner to her husband Joe, being married for 59 years. She was also a caring involved mother, determined to shower her children with fond guidance and wisdom and was completely devoted and in love with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren - who allowed her to become affectionately known as “MaBelle”

Ronald Dean DeHart, Sr., 65, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Russell County Hospital. He was born on February 16, 1959 in Casey County, KY, a son of the late Clifford and Nellie Rose Lee DeHart. 

 

Ronald was a former foreman and supervisor for Tarter Wood Products. He loved to be outdoors fishing and riding horses. Ronald was always laughing, telling jokes, and singing. He loved the Lord and had strong faith in God. Ronald always said that “God would see him through.”

Karen Susan Kafka, 66, of Columbia, KY passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at T. J. Health Columbia. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 9, 1958, to the late Anthony A. and Laurel E. Harrod Pietsch.

 

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Anton Pietsch.

 

Mrs. Kafka was an Elementary School Teacher and an Equestrian business owner and rider. She was also an equestrian riding instructor and participated in the NATRC cross country rides earning many awards. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Bobby Akin; her daughter, Cindy Akin Hughes; and a grandson, Seth Akin. 


She was of the Baptist faith, formerly worked at Fruit of the Loom and the Dollar General Distribution Center.

Sandra Pennington Tucker, 72, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born January 17, 1952 in Russell County, a daughter of the late Hulon and Thelma Cuppernell Pennington. 
 

Sandra was a seamstress and former employee of Sutton Shirt Factory, Russell Sportswear, Fruit of the Loom, and Osh Kosh. She enjoyed making beautiful quilts, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family. Sandra was a member of Russell Springs Christian Church.

 

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Tucker and a brother, Jerry Pennington.

Maxwell Barkley Hancock, 85, of Greensburg, KY passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024 at his residence. During his illness, Max was surrounded by family and friends and passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born August 12, 1938 in the Fry community of Greensburg to the late Ammon and Grace Buckner Hancock.
 
Max was a hardworking man, a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army as an MP. Max loved his family and cherished old friends. He was known for his honesty, integrity, work ethic, compassion, his dedication to provide for others, and his devotion to the Lord. Max was a man of meaningfulness and of his word. He was a good neighbor and friend to many, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Kathy Popplewell, 74, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, June 24, 2024 in Danville, KY. She was born on November 27, 1949 in Corbin, KY, the daughter of the late Juanita and Carter Koger, Sr.

 

Kathy lived most of her life in Somerset, KY and was a graduate of Somerset High School, where she was a Jumperette. She received her degrees in elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University. Kathy taught at Hogue Elementary, Northern Middle School, and Shopville Elementary until her retirement. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and her beloved dogs.

Madeline Waltz, 100, of Columbia, KY died Friday, July 5, 2024 at her home. She was born April 14, 1924 in DePoyster, New York to the late Glenn Thomas and June Pearl Conroy Hill. 
 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Waltz on September 4, 1994.

 

Ms. Waltz was a member of Milltown Church, the first female Lieutenant in the Kentucky Corrections Cabinet, a Red Cross Nurse for blood drives, volunteered for various organizations (including Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens and Meals on Wheels) but above all she was a devoted Military Wife.

Ronald Lee Powell, 75, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.  He was born December 2, 1948 in Adair County, a son of the late William and Mabel McElroy Powell. 

 

Ronald was a former dispatcher for Kentucky State Police Post #15. He spent many years as the primary caregiver to his mother before she passed away. Ronald enjoyed collecting sport memorabilia, buying old cars to fix up, and just hanging out with his friends.

Harold Daniel Schackow, 85, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, July 1, 2024 at Russell County Hospital. He was born September 29, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late Harold and Bernice Rivard Schackow. 
 

Harold was a former machine operator at Tecumseh Products and a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, mowing his yard, and tending to a garden. He also enjoyed making hot salsa that no one else was able to eat. Harold will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Shannon “Catfish” Rowe, 51, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Summit Manor Nursing and Rehab in Columbia. He was born March 20, 1973 in Adair County to the late Haskin and Grethel Lou Estes Rowe.

 

Shannon professed his faith in Christ, was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Matt Bevin, was former Chairman of the Adair County Republican Party, Constable for District 2, former member of the Adair County Fair Board, a member of the Adair County Jaycees for many years and was honored as a Lifetime Member of the Adair County Rescue Squad, serving as Secretary for many years.

Mary Ann McDaniel, 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away from this life Monday, July 1, 2024, at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Somerset.  She was born on October 7, 1937 in Webster County, KY, a daughter of the late Marshall Coleman and Lois Elizabeth Yarbrough Asher. 
 
Mary Ann worked as a beautician for many years in Owensboro. In the late 1970’s, she met John McDaniel, Jr., whom she wed March 20, 1981. Mary Ann took great pride throughout the years in caring for their home, koi pond, and many flowers. She also enjoyed collecting classic cars with her husband. Her favorite car was a baby blue 1964 Ford Thunderbird convertible that she could often be seen driving around town back in the day. Mary Ann was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church.
