ROBERT BRADLEY BRADSHAW, 75, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Robert Bradley Bradshaw, 75, of Columbia, KY died Friday, September 30, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Glensfork, KY on March 9, 1947 to the late William Travis and Doris Gray Grant Bradshaw.

 

Mr. Bradshaw was a member of the Glensfork Community Church and the former owner and operator of Bradshaw and Son Logging and Bradshaw and Son Oak Furniture.   He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family and friends.

LARRY KEITH DAVIS, 77, KNIFLEY, KY

 
Larry Keith Davis, 77, of the Knifley area of Taylor County, KY passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY surrounded by his family. He was born on March 29, 1945 in Yuma, KY to the late Dan Davis and Ethel Reynolds Davis. 
 
Larry began his career as a police officer for Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement in 1972. Each workday, he made the sixty-mile drive to the Elizabethtown, KY post where he patrolled the I-65 corridor. After a 36-year career in law enforcement, Larry retired as captain in 2008. He was a member of the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police and made sure the whole family had the license plates to prove it. Additionally, he enjoyed serving as a committee member for Revisit Knifley, where he took great care to help organize his community’s yearly festival.
 
His family is most grateful for his caring nature, youthful curiosity, and spirit of perseverance that he instilled in each of us. Following his retirement, Larry continued to work on the farm each day with the same dedication of one still working a breadwinner’s 9-5. He had a passion for restoring antique tractors, meticulously caring for a rotating troop of barn cats, and collecting all sorts of items and trinkets that piqued his interest. Larry also enjoyed participating in the local tractor shows and parades. He was famously active, lively, and full of vigor until the very end.
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dannie Davis and infant siblings: Joanie and Johnnie Davis.

Phyllis Janet Richards, 75, of Russell County, KY passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 in Lexington, KY. She was born July 13, 1947 in Columbia, KY, a daughter of the late Chesley and Lizzie Richards.

 

Phyllis was a retired homemaker who had resided in Russell County her entire life and was loved by many.

JOHN W. HOLTZCLAW, 83, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (ADAIR COUNTY NATIVE)

 

John W. Holtzclaw, 83, of Campbellsville, KY died Friday, September 23, 2022 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born November 3, 1938 in Adair County to the late J.W. and Lula Blair Holtzclaw. 

 

John united in marriage to Carolyn Keltner in 1972 and she preceded him in death on February 23, 1998. He later united in marriage to Earlene Bright on June 10, 2000 and she preceded him in death on July 27, 2019. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Holtzclaw.

EDWARD LEE ROBERTSON, 70, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 

Edward Lee Robertson, 70, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at Russell County Hospital. He was born April 25, 1952 in Russell County, a son of Irene Wilson Robertson and the late Elvin Robertson. 

 

Edward was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. His time spent in the woods led his wife, Arlene, to give him the nickname “Daniel Boone”. He was a member of Pine Grove Separate Baptist Church.

DARRY DALE MCELROY, 73, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 

Darry Dale McElroy, 73, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his home.  He was born on June 25, 1949 in Russell County, a son of the late Colonus Lee and Olma Foley McElroy.

 

Darry enjoyed working. He was a former court security officer with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, and a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom with 33 years of dedicated service.  Darry also worked in years past at Cudahy Cheese Company. Darry deeply loved his family and spending time with them.

RUBY NELL CRAWHORN, 84, COLUMBIA, KY

 

Ruby Nell Crawhorn, 84, of Columbia, KY died Monday, September 26, 2022 at T. J. Health Columbia.  She was born in Columbia, KY on May 25, 1938 to the late George Beckham and Vetis Murrell Brockman. 

 

Mrs. Crawhorn was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a Nurse for 30 years at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg before retiring.  She enjoyed flower gardening, watching University of Kentucky basketball and the company of her animals, but most of all she loved the time spent with her grandchildren Gavin and Ashley.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Willie Crawhorn.

Richard (Tite) Rogers, 83, of Louisville, KY passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville. He was born October 15, 1938 in Adair County, KY, a son of the late Coy Rogers and Lois (Smith) Rogers of Columbia, KY.

 

Richard was a graduate of Adair County High School, a member of the former 18th Street Baptist Church, and a Master Mason of the Shively Lodge #951, Grand Lodge of Kentucky F. & A.M., and a 32nd degree Mason in the Louisville Scottish Rite. As a master plumber for 59 years, he worked for Mose Franck and was the owner of Rogers Plumbing.

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 3 sons: Christopher Rogers, Richard (Chuck) Parker Rogers, Lee John Rogers and 2 brothers: Billy C. Rogers and Jimmy Todd Rogers.

Mary was a retired Home Economics Teacher.

Joe Russell Grant, 78, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, September 24, 2022 at his home. He was born December 1, 1943 to the late Joe Tom and Mildred Evelyn Bennett Grant. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thomasine Loy a brother, Donnie Grant and a sister-in-law, Charlene Blair.
 

Joe worked many years for Osh Kosh B’Gosh.

DELLA "DORIS" GOSSER BROWN, 98, LOUISVILLE, KY (RUSSELL COUNTY NATIVE)

 
Della “Doris” Gosser Brown, 98, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Glen Ridge Health Campus in Louisville, KY. She was born July 11, 1924 in the Irvin Store community of Russell County to the late Grover Cleveland and Della Meece Gosser. 
 
She married Lansing Woodrow Brown in 1942, who also preceded her in death. Four children were born to their union. She spent her early married years as a farmwife and homemaker. Later, she worked at Russell Sportswear, then was the head cook of Russell Springs Elementary School for 8 years. At the age of 65, she retired from Lake Cumberland State Park where she had been the Country Store manager for over 20 years. During all these years, and up until the last decade of her life, she enjoyed working and gardening on the family farm. After retirement, she pursued her life-long dream of getting a high school diploma by earning her GED. In retirement she joined the Lake Cumberland Hospice volunteer organization and was a member of the Russell County Hospital Auxiliary where she logged a record for the number of volunteer hours served. She was a very active member of Fairview Baptist Church. She had an immense heart for missions and supported several organizations and individuals. She was a member of the Lake Cumberland Aging Council and Homemakers. She loved to read, quilt, and crochet in her spare time. She was also a faithful poll worker for decades. Perhaps her greatest joy was having the opportunity to babysit and show affection to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Davidson; 2 grandsons: Chad Davidson and Joel Davidson;  5 brothers and 4 sisters: Arno Gosser, Finis Gosser, GC Gosser, Jacob Gosser, Wallace Gosser, Radia Foley, Gholsie Bennett, Sylvia Tiller, and Maynie Tucker.

Arlis Dee Dykes, 2-month old son of Collin Dykes and Nicole Givens, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 at Norton Children’s Hospital after battling congenital heart defects since birth.


He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Jack Johns and Dee and Maxine Dykes.

SCOTTIE ANN HALTER, 78, BOWLING GREEN, KY (ADAIR COUNTY NATIVE)

 

Scottie Ann Halter, 78, of Bowling Green, KY (a native of Adair County) went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Greenview Regional Hospital. Born in 1944, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Annie Willis.

 

Scottie graduated from Adair County High School (62’) and received a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education at Western Kentucky University. Scottie is remembered fondly from her 35-year teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at Forrest Park Baptist Church and Pre-School teacher at Parks and Recreation of Bowling Green. Scottie cherished all of her students and was treasured for never forgetting a face. A lover of the outdoors, Scottie and her beloved husband, Charlie, shared many adventures visiting 43 states during their 58 happy years of marriage. Scottie was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and will be fondly remembered for her pleasant humor, delicious desserts, intensive annual gingerbread house competition with family, and very appreciated and punctual birthday/anniversary cards to every loved friend and family member.

Anthony Dale “Tony” Hall, 66, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at his home.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 23, 1956, a son of the late James Albert and Aline Lawless Hall.  
 
Tony was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had a career as an auto mechanic. He loved life and enjoyed going fishing, swimming and camping and listening to all types of music.Tony loved his Lord. He was always ready to give a hand to anyone in need.
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Hall and a sister, Cheryl Hall Conover.

Rodney Dale Snow, 73, of Russell Springs, KY died Monday, September 19, 2022 in Albany, KY. Rodney was born May 18, 1949 to the late Charlie "Bryant" and Bessie Rue Cook Snow. 
 
Rodney dedicated his life to Christ as a young boy and attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Russell Springs.
 
Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by a beloved brother, Larry "Snowbird" Snow.

Horace William Hill, 97, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, September 18, 2022 at his residence in Buford, GA. He was born in Edmonton, KY on September 14, 1925 to the late James Wiley and Etta Edna Carter Hill.
 
Mr. Hill was a member of the First Church of God in Lafayette, IN and attended the Lake Wells Church of God in Florida before moving to Buford, GA. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and a retired Machinist for TRW. He enjoyed fishing, camping, antique and sports cars and spending time with his family and friends. To know Mr. Hill was to love him.

Clara Martha Gaskins Humphress, 84, of Columbia, KY, daughter of the late Elbert H. Gaskins and Mary Belle Pike Gaskins, was born March 15, 1938 in Ella, (Adair County) KY and departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at U of L Health in Louisville, KY surrounded by her loving family.

 

She professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Christie Chapel United Methodist Church in Elkhorn, KY where she enjoyed singing. She was a beautiful, charming, kind, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Clara was a retired Cafeteria Worker from Danville Jr. High in Danville, IN, where she was very well known for her cookies. Among her favorite activities was reading mystery novels and enjoying her pets. In her spare time from cooking and baking she enjoyed watching the Kentucky Wildcats and NASCAR.

Earlene Willis Thomas, 76, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, September 15, 2022 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born August 15, 1946 in Adair County to the late Earl and Jennie Vee Ewing Willis.  
 
Earlene was raised with great family traditions. So, it’s so befitting to say that her and her late sister Clara reminded us as well as the other siblings - the true meaning “God moves in mysterious ways”. Determination to make it to their final “Willis Pig Roast”, and no one was stopping that. She attended Jackman High and later received her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) training in Bowling Green, KY.  She retired from Phillip Morris in Louisville, KY and moved back to Columbia. She continued her journey working for Fruit of the Loom, OshKosh B’Gosh, and Amazon. 
 
Earlene accepted Christ at an early age, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia where she served in roles as Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the Senior Choir. She was truly a people person, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Kay Willis Scott and Clara Lee Flowers, and a brother, Ralph Willis.

Cleo D. Jones, 89, of Arizona passed away at his home on Thursday, September 8, 2022. He was born May 14, 1933 to Ida Lesta Robinson-Jones & Willie Thomas Jones in Adair County, KY. 
 
Cleo joined the United States Army in 1951. On August 31, 1961 CPL Jones Cleo D. was Honorably Discharged from his service. This would be the new beginning to his trucking career of over 44 years. Cleo was an accomplished & well respected Semi-Truck Driver. He was well known for for telling stories about driving his semi in 49 states, Canada & Mexico. He received many safe driving awards. He was "Driver of the Year" by Arizona Motor Transportation Association, American Truckers Association & Cement Transport Inc. Of all the hobbies Cleo had he most enjoyed working for many years with the Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee as an active & advisory member. Everyone who knew Cleo felt his big heart & giving nature. He was a true gentleman! Cleo had an amazing life, a loving family and wonderful caring friends.

CARL "CHET" HENRY, 81, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY


Carl “Chet” Henry, 81 of Russell Springs, KY, formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 11, 2022. He was a son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Vietz) Henry.

 

On May 22, 1965 Chet married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Csernik. Chet was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Russell Springs. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Perry-Keystone Masonic Lodge # 392 F. & A.M., and a lifetime member of the Siebenbuerger Club. Chet was an honorable discharged veteran from the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Eriez Magnetics, in Erie, PA after 37 years of dedicated service as a supervisor for the electronics and metal detector assembly division. If Chet wasn’t fixing something, he could be found enjoying the outdoors. Chet enjoyed sailing on Lake Erie, prior to retiring to Lake Cumberland in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Louis Maulden and a brother, Charles Sidney Helm.

Patty Johnson, 84, of Hillsboro, Indiana (formerly of Russell Springs, KY) died Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Autumn Trace Assisted Living in Attica, Indiana. She was born in Cumberland County, KY on December 16, 1937, a daughter of the late Edwin Cook and Bessie (Orton) Cook.

Patty was a homemaker in Louisville, Kentucky.  She and Van later lived in Russell Springs, Kentucky for over 20 years, then moved to Hillsboro, Indiana in 2017. Patty loved children and worked with them in all the churches they attended.

 

She was known by her family as the storyteller to her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was known for her servant’s heart and her love for her Lord. She read through the Bible numerous times in her life, reading seven chapters each day, every day.

 

She was a member of the South Jefferson Christian Church in Louisville, the Russell Springs Christian Church in Russell Springs, and Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg, Indiana.

Nina Frances Stephens, 90, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at the home of her daughter in Corbin, KY. She was born on June 15, 1932 in Gans Bottom, Wayne County, KY to the late Winford Edwin and Zella Whittle Stephens. 
 
Nina grew up in Russell County. She was retired from Russell Sportswear and was a member of Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church.

Anita Denson Keltner, 94, of Columbia, KY died Friday, September 9, 2022 at 4:15 A.M. at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was born June 5, 1928 to the late Luther Thomas and Elnora Beulah Ballenger Denson. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Keltner, her son-in-law, Terry Allen Akin, four brothers, Edwin, Marvin, Wesley and Leslie Denson and four sisters, Pearl Vaughan Miller, Margie Pickett, Ethelean Keltner and Edith Dean Denson.

 

Anita worked as a hairdresser after receiving her diploma from Kentucky Beauty College in 1946.  She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, enjoyed keeping her granddaughters and baking chocolate pies.

Mayme June Helm, 88, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Russell County Hospital.  She was born in Russell County on June 22, 1934, a daughter of the late Porter Elmer and Nell Shearer Wooldridge.  

 

Mayme was a life-long member of Fairview Separate Baptist Church. She was a dairy farmer, alongside her husband, Elwood. Mayme worked as a seamstress for Fruit of the Loom in Jamestown and was an employee at Lake Cumberland State Park. She enjoyed reading.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Elwood Helm, who passed away July 1, 2009; her sister, Maxine Garner; and a brother who died in infancy.

Lucy was a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and attended the Cooks Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and devoted her time to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucy loved animals and spending time outdoors tending to her flower garden.
 
She was married for 51 years to her husband Paul Riggins, who preceded her in death.

Mary Irene Miller, 94, of Russell Springs, KY passed away at her home on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Born July 11, 1928 in Jamestown, KY she was a daughter of the late Willie Claude and Bertha Coffey Blakely. 
 

Irene was a member of New Victory Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time on her front porch watching traffic come and go. Irene was an excellent mother to her children and deeply loved all her family. After her dear husband, Russell, passed away in 1992, she saw the need to become independent. With the help of her granddaughter, Holly, Irene passed the exams and got her driver’s license at the age of 66.

WILLIAM HENRY VIERS, 73, ELKHORN, KY

 
William Henry Viers, 73, of Elkhorn, KY, son of the late James Burt Viers and Mattie Bell Bray Viers, was born October 16, 1948 in Taylor County and departed this life on Friday, September 2, 2022 at his home.
 
He professed his faith in Christ and was of Church of God faith, He was a retired construction worker after many years. William loved hunting and fishing and really enjoyed a good game of Rook.
 
He united in marriage to Marlyn Lou Doss on August 1, 1970 who preceded him in death on November 8, 2016.

THELMA HARPER MILLER CUNDIFF, 90, COLUMBIA, KY


Thelma Harper Miller Cundiff, 90, of Columbia, KY died Friday, September 2, 2022 at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her family. She was born on November 28, 1931 in Columbia, KY to the late Otha Miller and Anna Lewis Harper.
 

Thelma moved to Texas and lived with her loving aunt and uncle, John Burns and Julia Horton, from the age of 3 until she married.

 

She was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and formerly attended Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from the U.S. Federal Government after many years with the Selective Service and U.S. Forestry Service. Her compassion was well known to the families that had young family members going off to the Vietnam War. She was known as “Ma Ma Honey” to family and friends.

Jason Clay Cox, 48, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 8:27 P.M. at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was born September 18, 1973 in Adair County to the late William Dale “Bill” Cox and Carol Black Cox.

 

Jason was operator and partner in A & J BBQ on Hwy East 80 in Adair County.

BETTY JEAN WOOLDRIDGE LAWLESS AARON, 82, JAMESTOWN, KY

 

Betty Jean Wooldridge Lawless Aaron, 82, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Russell County Hospital. She was born in the Swan Pond Community of Russell County on December 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Felix and Lura Hadley Wooldridge. 

 

Betty married Herbert Hue Lawless on August 3, 1957 and they raised two sons and two daughters. Betty was bookkeeper for her husband’s contracting business, Herb’s Construction. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Jamestown for over 50 years. Betty was an excellent cook. She prepared three big meals a day for her husband and family, that included a dessert with every meal. Betty would feed Herbert’s work crew from her dining table, as well. She was known for her chicken and dumplings, fried apple pies and her chocolate gravy. Betty loved to quilt and sew, making clothing for her children. She loved to fish, raise her garden and can the rewards from it, and she enjoyed playing cards, working puzzles and playing games.
